UPDATING KORG PA2X - URGENT - PLEASE HELP

Post by sexykorgpa800 »

Hello,

I'm updating my Korg Pa2x. I've loaded the Pa2X_os_res_v202.pkg onto a USB.

I went through the first step, held the Intro 1 button and powered on the keyboard and selected the Pa2X_os_res_v202.pkg file.

It then says "Updating SYSTEM" and once it's complete it says "System Update Complete Please switch off or press okay to restart"

I then press OK and now I'm wondering do I need to manually load the updated 2.02 musical resources or am I good to go?

Does this .pkg file update BOTH the Operating System AND the Musical resources automatically? Or do I need to manually update the musical resources?

*Sorry that I posted this on the pa3x forums, I was not getting any response on the pa2x forums, and am in a rush because I have an upcoming event :D *

By definition yes , resources are for sure loaded but about OS , it's easy to find it out since when Pa2X boots
screen logo always illustrates the version of OS.

Hi AntonySharmman,

When the keyboard loads it does state the current version 2.02.

I'm confused because I remember in the past when I upgraded the pa2x to a previous version (2.01) I had to MANUALLY load the musical resources AFTER the operating system got updated!

So with this new update, I'm confused, because I did not have to go through the extra step.

Does anyone else know if I am good to go or do I need to manually load the 2.02 musical resources?

There is no manual method to load factory resources The only one available you can have is Pa2X_os_res_v202.pkg of 131 Mb !!!
Also the only file that deletes factory resources is Pa2X_Format.pkg , therefore load Pa2X_os_res_v202.pkg and then
check that your Pa2X factory sounds will be there !

Also consider of upgrading to OS v.2.02 if you have custom resources made on some older models , since this latest OS
has some more loading protections and maybe will be incompatible with your older custom set (especially with oriental time sliced samples)
getting the "not a pa file" message !

Hey AntonySharmman,

Thanks for your reply!

Thanks for clarifying.

I was confused because with the older version of 2.01 you had to 1) Update the system and 2) Once booted you had to go to media and manually load the musical resources, the system would notify you to MANUALLY load the musical resources. This is how the PAST updates were with 2.01.

NOW with 2.02, I loaded the Pa2X_os_res_v202.pkg of 131 Mb and the system told me that it's been updated and I restarted it and saw that the system was 2.02 and then I saw that the factory sounds were there.

That's why i was soooooooooo confused.

So pretty much with 2.01 we had to MANUALLY load the musical resources and with 2.02 it's done AUTOMATICALLY for us during that one update step, right?

I verified and all the DNC sounds are there as well as the new styles for 2.02 under the styles bank.

It's all updated automatically in the first step, no 2nd or extra step needed in 2.02 unlike 2.01

Thanks!

The label of a resource file declares the contents not to mention that a manual is always attached that clearly describes it.
Your previous 2.01 was called "res" that means only musical resources , the latest is called "OS_Res" which also means OS + Resources.
You see ... it's obvious !
Also the purpose of a res file is not the update itself since a res file in PaSeries never includes new waveforms but is used
in case your internal HD is corrupted !
The main update is The OS that is followed by a Utility/factory Restore !
