Replacing knobs

Post by Kuwaga »

I don't know if anyone here has any experience with this sort of thing, but I'm considering purchasing chroma caps to replace many of the knobs on the electribe. I've used them on a friends controller and I like the feel much more, not to mention the benefit of increased visual feedback in lowlight. My question is if anyone here has tried doing this with one of the newer electribes, or if they know of a good way to pop off the old knobs? Thanks in advance!

I am just about to buy a set myself for my e2. The knobs on the e2 just pop off. There are tools to make it easier, but I just make sure that I am pulling straight up and slowly.

What color knobs are you thinking of getting. I was going to get all one color with another for the 3 volume knobs. Not sure yet.

Oh that's good to know.

I'm thinking blue, grey, and pink. Looks nice together and I was gonna alternate colors for the different sections for ease when performing. How about you? Any particular color or are you not sure?

I was thinking of all green with 3 red or white for the volumes or all neon orange with 3 red or whites for the volumes. Not sure yet.

I just tested it for you, and the Chroma's fit fine on the E2. The stock knobs come off very easy, just be gentle and go slow, and make sure you pull straight up.

Which chromas do you need for each kind if knob on the e2?
01/WFD - M3 - MS-20 - Volca Bass - Volca Beats - Volca Keys - electribe emx2 - Monotron - KP3+ - iPad with too many Korg apps

Moog Sub 37 - Arturia Microbrute - Roland Gaia SH-01 - Boss DR660 - Akai S1000 - Akai S01 - Yamaha RM1x - Roland SP-404SX

I only have the standard ones from when I owned a Kontrol X1, that's all I could test. The shaft sizes on the E2 knobs are all the same though it looks like.

I assumed you'd want the super knobs for the majority, and the encoders for the others. Probably a fatty for the filter, as it isn't endless.

Also, thanks very much, both of you!

Hey again, just a new worry!

I saw a post on the facebook page that made it seem like the pot on the knobs may not be compatible the e2. I may have misunderstood the poster, but I want to make sure before I order.

Thanks again to any response!

I haven't bought mine yet, but I am 99.99% sure that they are right. I have tried a few other knobs and they all work fine on the e2. I have
tried my mixer knobs, microSAMPLER washing machine-type knobs, monotribe knobs, etc. All have the flat part of the shaft 180 degrees from the pointer (if there is one) on the knob.

Alright perfect. I'll probably be ordering mine tonight or something so I'll let you know about that other 0.01%!

I took some pics for you guys, using the Resonance knob as an example:

Now with a stock Traktor S8 knob with the shaft in the same orientation as the above pic. The Chroma Caps are the same as the S8, I just didn't have one handy tonight:

So the flat side of the shaft is the same, at least on mine. Also because someone mentioned it, while the S8/Chroma knobs DO fit the electribe, they are a tiny, fraction less snug. In my case they wouldn't fall off if I turned it upside down or anything, but I'd be a little careful if I was holding it on stage or something. Some blue tack or a piece of paper makes it tight as needed though.

Long story short, Chroma caps WILL work, but it's not as bullet proof as the stock knobs.
