Moss census

I'd like to know how many of you have the moss board, it's strange seeing that this part of the forum is one of the less up to date since Moss board is so hard to use...
so: if you have a moss: how do you use it (for synth, basses, pad, or classical instrument simulation?)

ups I forgot... I use it expecially for classical instrument simulation, but even for lead sounds (hope to find the time to learn how to program good strings and pad sounds)

Well considering I have a VL70m and a WX5 Wind Controller, I would have to say that I only use the Moss board for Synth Sounds and Bell Sounds.

I find that the Moss board absolutely crushes the Sample based sounds in the Bell Category because it can produce a sound a million times cleaner at very high pitches compared to the Sample based sounds.

Synth sounds. I've never really been that good at making bass sounds, as my monitors (Alesis M1Mk2Actives) don't go all that far down (rolls off steeply at around 65Hz

). I've heard people rave about the Z1 (ie. Moss) for its bass sounds though. It does have a very flexible sub-oscillator (almost like a third osc', compared to my Virus' ill-equipped sub-osc).

I use mine more for pads and leads, in a dance vibe. I also very much like the brass section (used in dance music, as opposed to realism), with distortion added to give it bite. I'm sure I spotted a brass sound from the Z1/Moss in a Leftfield track (on the excellent "Leftism" album) once. The acoustic guitars are nice, too.

I used to use it for wind/brass and guitar. Then I got a VL70m and I only used it for guitar. Then I get the TE and now I rarely use it at all. I keep trying to find someone to program me a realistic flute (I really want many wind/brass instruments but will settle for a flute) that uses the MOSS and is breath controlled, but I have not had any luck yet.

Almost exclusively for pads and LFO-driven rhythm madness. Never took the time to experiment with acoustic instruments physical modeling. You have to "learn" to play the models to fully appreciate it. Never had much time to do it.

MOSS is an excellent "synth-in-the-synth" and can do some really neat things... I use it a lot!

I'm a new owner of this beast and I also think this is a killer synth that I still have to explore. I've also installed the EXB-PCM05 recently but MOSS is far more better than this one.

I only use mine for synth and bass sounds.

It is fun to play with the "Blue Sax" patch (to impress people how cool keyboard saxes can sound and to have some fun), but this is not for productive purposes.

In fact, the patch "E. & Syn Bass" (with SW1 and the Valve Force turned on) is the best (!) bass I ever heard.

It's in my Extreme 88. It's use is for synth sounds but I find tinkering with it, it's got many other uses. In some cases, it now does the job of my MS2000. I been able to take the patches I use with my MS2k and bring right into the MOSS very easy. Using the Soundtower editor too. With out that editor, I would be lost with the MOSS.

It was very hard for me to fork over that extra few hundred for it. I took a chance on it. Glad I did but it's not for everyone. If you do not like digging into your synth or getting a editor, leave it be. If you got time to learn it, dig into it, and you like synth programming, it's a cool item to have.

It does provide a edge to some sounds in my tracks. Something that a bit unique and different. :3dread:

I just used the pipe organ moss program on my Bland of the Dead song, and it gave it a nice dimension, especially since the TS is somewhat limited on the organ programs. I may use moss more now. When I do it seems to cut through the TS programs like a knife thru butter.

I Sold my Z1 to fund & make room for my Triton Extreme, and I've just recently added the Moss board.

I haven't had much time to have a good play with it yet, but I suspect it will mainly be used for synth lead and bell sounds which I believe are its strong points.

I think it's fairly versatile. You might find other uses. Make sure you get the manual.
