Al1 or MS2000

Post by wizeutropio »

Hi

Which synth ergine will produce the more analogue sound?

The kronos with its al1 or a MS2000?

Or I will get the same sound in both machines using identical settings vor VCO and filters? :?:

Thanks

I don't mean to be an ass, but it seems a meaningless question to me.
Neither of them is analog. Both are similar and have their weak and strong points. The Kronos has MS20EX and PolySixEX in addition to AL1.

It would be more helpful if you explain more about the choice between these two and what kind of sound you're after. And please don't say "analog" ;)

Ok. I was speaking of course about emulation of analog sounds. I'm newbie in sound programming and I was wondering which of the 2 machines could produce better warm sounds and which was the easy to program. Or maybe they are similar and I can get the same sounds with both boards? I mean using same settings

"Analog sounds" is so incredibly broad and "warm" is also really vague. I know these are fashionable terms but I kinda hate them. That said, many people find AL1 tricky to program and tricky to sound like a "vintage" instrument. That is partly because it is very precise and very complicated. With a real analog synth, it's the technical and architectural limitations that provide a lot of character. I think an MS2000 will give you more of that feeling, including the control surface.

But again, AL1 is very versatile, and the Kronos ALSO comes with dedicated emulations of an MS20 and a PolySix, both of which are very good. By the way the KingKorg also has some really good filter model emulations of many analog synths. Without knowing more about the sound you're trying to get or the situation you want to use it in I would probably recommend that.

Yes, AL-1 is definitely more versatile, though the MS2000 has it's appeal and it's own strengths, too. I'd just play them both and go with your instincts.

Of course, if you're going to have the Kronos, you'll have the replications of MS-20 and Poly6 as well, and both of those give you a lot of "analogue-like" sounds.

Plus you can combine the different engines, AL-1, MS20, Poly6 and create a very cool combi. Of course you can add in the other engines as well to suit your tastes.

Hey maybe this video from forum member enigmahack can shed some light on this for you. He is programing the "love is alive" bass sound which was analog then but doing it on 2 synth engines of the Kronos for today. You can check out which of the engines (if any) you feel sounds more analog in this instance.
