Changing Midi files on a Korg Pa600?

Post by shezza2 »

Hi all I am thinking of buying a Korg Pa600 but one of the jobs I need it to do is this......Load a Midi file do changes like tempo, change instruments, mute or delete some tracks and then save to computer and possibly change to Mp3 I have done it on Yamaha's but want a Korg. Can a Pa600 do this?.......Thanks

you can load midi - change all the things you want and save the midi e.g. on a stick in sequencer mode.

it´s not possible (in any keyboard of the world) to save a midifile as an *,mp3

midi is a data format - *.mp3 is an audio format

what you´ve to do is - play the midi and record it in your computer in an audio suite and then save your *.mp3.

hope that helps

I don't know about the 600. However, in my PA900 you can load in a MIDI file make changes, you see fit, and than convert it to a MP3 file and save it on USB stick if you choose so. Naturally the MIDI file will be converted in real time. Meaning you have to play it to be converted to an MP3 file. What's so nice about the PA900 is that it has dual players. Therefore you can load in 2 MIDI files make changes and convert directly to MP3 by fading from the 1st player to the 2nd player at the end of the song. That might come in handy down the road.
Hope that helps.

Snorkum - you can record it as an MP3 (inside the PA900) but NOT convert - like i mentioned before - it´s impossible.

And the question here was for the PA600 which doesn´t have this function.

Wittid - Yopu are correct. However, every musician should know that you can not just convert a Midi file into MP3, it actually has to be recorded.
However, knowing that, I assumed that is what shezza2 was talking about.

Remember, he/she has not not purchased the 600 yet, therefore I gave him the capability of the 900.

My mistake for missunderstanding the question.

Hi Guy's I cant go up to 900 so if a 600 will do what I want then that's great
Just to reiterate What I want to do is load a midi file change instruments and poss mute tracks. So then I can load to pc and then export from pc as Mp3 does this sound right?

no, look at that what i´ve written before.

you have to play the modified midi on the keyboard and then record with a PC or similar stuff.

if you play the midi on the pc you don´t have the sounds of the key - make no sense.

you can play the midi on the pc via midi connection to keyboard (so the sounds come from the keyboard) - go to line-in of your soundcard - use a recording software (there is also freeware available) and record the *.mp3

good luck

and then save to stick, Then load to Pc and into Audacity will that be able to convert to Mp3?
After modify midi on Korg (sounds) if you loaded this midi to Pc, unless you use DAW software with has plugin with korg sound, midi is going to play only GM (General Midi) sounds.
If you want to save your midi project as mp3 or other sound file you need use audio output from korg and connect to audio input on pc, then record.
I'm using digital recorded Tascam DP-008EX to record directly from korg.
