Guitar loop as a accompaniment

Post by Yoedsmn »

Hello my friends
I have some cool loops guitar from the kontakt library ,but,
I cant slice it succesfully.
And the big question is
Can I slice it and then make it as a guitar channel auto acc?
Is it possible? or just make it as a multi without slice it because of tempo changes?
Thank you

You can time slice any audio loop and then import it in your style, but it will keep looping in the same key regardless of what you play. It will follow the tempo of your style though. I don't see how this is of any use , unless your entire song is only played using one chord...or a very short chord progression recorded in the audio which would only work for that one particular song. You start doing this and in few days you'll max out your ram!

Are you sure your keyboard is able to transpose audio loops in real time? If yes, then it's certainly not a KORG keyboard!

Unless you are a beta tester for a new model/O.S. that hasn't been released yet, this is NOT possible!

TimeSlice for Audio Styles

Have a look to manuals of pa800/900/Pa3:
Using TimeSlice function of Pa800/Pa3x/Pa900 lets you transform a rhythm audio groove in a series of single percussive samples, to be assigned to the Drum or Percussion track of a Style or a Song.

Analyzing and processing of TimeSlicing detects content of rhythm audio groove and automatically divides them into individual percussive samples.
The divided percussive samples will be automatically assigned to different keys in a multisample, and the multisample to a Sound.

By playing an ascending chromatic scale with this multisample, you could recreate the original audio groove.

Also a MIDI Groove will be created, containing a sequence of notes triggering the sliced percussive samples in the same order as in the original audio groove.

Import this MIDI Groove to the percussive track of a Style - this sequence will let you adjust the groove’s tempo without affecting the pitch of the percussive samples.

In addition to changing the groove’s tempo without affecting its
pitch, this lets you do the following:
• change the order in which notes are played
• change the timing
• edit the pattern notes to freely recreate a new rhythm loop.
kind regards

You're missing the main point though! None of these keyboards are capable of transposing an audio loop in real time! You can NOT import an audio loop (in this case a Guitar loop) into a style and have it respond to Chord progressions in real time. That was the question! Regardless of what chord progression you play, the audio groove will loop in the original key. The midi events that are generated by TimeSlice function are not the same as midi events that you see in regular ACC channels (Piano...Strings...etc).

Sam, believe or not, it is possible on Korg PA series and i already made it. If you are interested, i can explane the procedure, but i must say again - its not an easy task and for me personally - not worth the efforts. Sorry, if my English is not very understandable - it is not my native language

Please do explain if you don't mind.

In the mean time take a look at Page 27 of the advanced edit user manual:

"...the imported groove and samples will not be
transposed together with the other Style tracks. Audio data cannot
be transposed by the arranger."

I think also Sam is right and to my knowledge this is possible only with rhythm audio groove like Drum/Percussion samples but not other audio instruments like guitar, piano, etc.
I have Pa 900 not Pa3X but anyway if this is possible I would be happy to know/learn the procedures for importing/slicing and assigning such audio instruments (guitar,piano,etc...) into style tracks and have the ability to work with chord recognition. It would be great.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year...:D
Thanks.

"None of these keyboards are capable of transposing an audio loop in real time"
This definition is wrong since all samplers do this by definition , transposing looped or not looped samples in real time (80% of Rom PCM are looped) !
The right definition is "a time sliced sample can't be transposed in PaSeries" and the reason is obvious , a time sliced sample is actually a MS
with more than one samples combined with particular midi events of sliced samples !

You could use a tricky method in Pa3X , creating 12 time sliced MS for minor & 12 MS for major chords with common SMF , then create
a 24 OSC sound with those MS in semitone orientation of 24 OSC in two octaves 1st minor/2nd major , set sound in no transpose mode
and then create style CVs for playing major or minor part ... a vast workflow with large usage of ram for only one riff ? what about
other 20 necessary chords of same riff ? .... Just a waste of time !

Guys you just need Pro guitar sounds to assign them in Guitar mode nor playing them manually ..
this is what I've done in my commercial resources !

Merry Christmas

Anthony I'm only talking about what this topic is all about! Again, the answer is simple and clear right there in the manual . An audio loop can not be transposed in real time when it comes to this particular area/feature ....that's it!

Manual's reference is how a function works properly for most common users , but a power user always knows what actually works.
I want to say that even a time sliced MS can be transposed but it doesn't work properly since midi events are messed up !
Any kind of sample can always be transposed when set as acc in a style if you have doubts just splice a melodic instrument loop and follow what
I described but it doesn't work properly , except if you devote much time for SMF tricks as I also mentioned , just for the story !
