either way, 2k or 4k is a lot of $$$ with Jan NAMM coming up. if it were me i would wait it out.

i making a wild guess -- 10,000 kronos were sold , maybe more. if Korg announces a new killer workstation, u can guess what will happen in late Jan/Feb, etc
Wait, agreed. or buy real cheap 2nd hand...

10.000 eh? I never thought about it. Maybe... I think the DX7 was the most mass produced synth. (Are you on FB YES related forums?)

I am going by my recall of serial #s for each key size. Not on FB yes, I try to minimize most of FB

I know that the MicroKorg is high up the list, perhaps 300,000+. The DX7 was the first real breakout synth, at 160,000 units. I don't think that included all the iterations of DX7s, DX7llFD, 100, 21, 9, 5, 1 or TX/TF modules.

Anyway, Korg soon trumped it with even more M1s (250,000), as did the Roland D50 (200,000). According to Korg's recent advertising, 300,000 Tritons were sold, but that seems to include the Classic, Studio, Extreme, Rack, etc.

As for the Kronos? 10,000 seems like a small number for such a high profile Korg product, even in this VST age. I guess it's possible.

I can't reveal the exact number sold, but that's low. :)

But in general, the "glory days" of synthesizer hardware sales seem to be over. Sure, for the highest-tech guys with money to spend, having the latest greatest new keyboard is desirable, but for many people, you can grab a used Triton or M3 and have an awesome keyboard that sounds nearly as good as something like a Kronos and does most of what it does, in terms of every day use for creating and playing music.

Yeah, I was thinking about two or three times that number.

That's not including the Kronos X series. I'm looking at some of the serial numbers at the Karma-lab site - original Kronos, At a glance, I'm seeing more than 7,000 for the 61 key (posted July 2012) and well over 4,000 for each of the 73 and 88s. X series numbers are about half of those. I'm going to guess "around" 25,000 units produced, all together.

So, if the sales numbers are good and still in demand, why are there no new Kronos X88 for sale? It's either :
a. Discontinued (maybe sales is really not doing very well, at least on the x88)
b. Manufacturing Issues
c. New upgraded version will be coming out soon

I hope it is C .

I figured 10k was low. But thank you for giving us numbers people a better idea.

18,000-22,000 ( for Kronos and X) is my revised guestimate :)

I can't see any Kronos here. Maybe because Kronos is not in sale anymore?

I looked at the sweetwater site and they say Korg has confined some shipments will be arriving soon, soon being relative I am sure. I doubt they would say they are going to have more if they weren't. I would bet the Kronos will be back full force and probably with a better mono then we have now. The Kronos X2!

Interesting that now all versions are listed as "Arriving Soon" rather than just the X88. This could be clearing out in preparation for something new. This is the same availability pattern that OASYS and M3 had. Looking forward to something be it Kronos X2 or whatever name they choose.

I like the speculation. Let the rumors commence ;)

X2 isn't a bad name but we need better name hype. After all, we are supposed to be creative keyboardists :)

Korg Master 2000

Anything with 'Master' and '2000' in it sounds good.
