Here's what I do and it works fairly well. I use a Behringer Ultratone K3000FX. It is a decent amp and has a number of great features.
1- It has built in stereo XLR and 1/4" TRS DI outputs that are ONLY affected by the individual channel levels and NOT the master volume setting, so that you can turn the master volume all the way down and still have a signal going to FOH. Any volume levels on the Kronos itself would be reflected in the FOH though.
2- Has a simple graphic EQ to help compensate for room and stage variations.
3- It has some basic effects
4- the fourth channel has a variety of output options so that you could bring in a monitor send from the FOH mixer and NOT send that back to FOH, but still have it come out of the amp on stage.
The main issue I see with what you were originally asking for is that a static volume level sent to FOH might not work for all scenarios. Dynamics is a function that should be under constant control of a performer (you) and in relation to the dynamics of the rest of the members on stage (assuming that they play dynamically). All this said, it still is an endless enigma, as music reproduction is a complex undertaking with a large number of variables. You main concern should be that you are comfortable with the on stage mix so that you can concentrate on your performance.
PS- You can always set up TFX 2 on the Kronos as a limiter so that you can alleviate excessive volume "jumps". Jordan Rudess says he does this for all of his patches. But it takes tweaking in the live environment to get it right.

If this works it will make my live setup very simple with my M Audio powered speakers for monitors running into 1/2andreidelait wrote:There is an easy way to do it actually.
Go in Global/Audio tab and in the top right side you will find Audio Output, L/R Bus Indiv. Assign and set that to 1/2. That means you duplicated the main L/R output to Outputs 1/2. Now when you use the volume knob it affects just the L/R but not the 1/2 outputs.
In the fisrt scenario if you use the L/R output for your backline and 1/2 for the PA you can control your volume but not the PA one.
In the 2nd scenario if you use the 1/2 for you and L/R for PA then you can control the PA volume but not yours. You can control the backline volume from the mixer.
Only the Master fader in control surface section affects both so keep that in mind.
After you set this in global do not forget to write global settings if you are happy with the result.
I use the same way to monitor myself. I send L/R to the PA and 1/2 to my small mixer and I control my headphones volume from it.
I hope it helps.

I'm quite okay with Behringer products. I use some of their tube pre-amps in my studio and like the sound that I get. I'd actually like to get a small stereo P.A. made by them but for some reason Behringer is becoming hard to get in my city. That's not good for me because I really want to upgrade my onstage system and don't want to spend a lot of money.
If music is the food of love, play on and play loud!

I just ordered the BEHRINGER MX882 ULTRALINK PRO on Amazon. Hopefully this, coupled with my Crown PowerAmp gives me the signal control on stage that I need.
