what about the krome?
I would also choose the M3. The Krome is nice but it's basicially an updated M50. The only advantage over the M3 is better pianos. I would choose the M3 since it has Karma, Sampling, RADIAS expansion, chord pads, a better control surface, and a better quality keybed as well as a few other things.
question, maybe it has been asked before..
my m50 was freezing then the whole summer it didnt freeze once.
now its freezing again..
someone told me maybe its caused by the unstable electricity in the country (Lebanon)..
what i wanted to ask, buying a stabilizer or ups, helps to fix the problem? or it is caused by another issue?
and does someone know how to reach a korg manufacturer so that i can ask for advice how to repair it? (since there s no korg dealer or ompany in lebanon)
Current Gear: KORG M50
Past Gear: KORG microSTATION, Yamaha DGX520
Bummer to see this but mine has been fine although little use after getting the Kronos. If it's bad caps I just got a new soldering station and will put it to good use should that ever occur but IT SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN ON A KORG and would be the very first time for me not counting damage due to harmonics that resulted in a lawsuit after replacing everything in my Wave Station AD and O1R-W which was OK in the end because I got the updated BIOS chips and better MB.

Korg M50 88 owner here... After 5 years of using the instrument started freezing constantly. Looking for solution to that. I never did any OS upgrade because I didn't need to, it was working great.
Hay I think I replied to you on Karma Labs. Are you in Poland now? If so same person. There appears to be a certain percentage of M50's that got a batch of bad caps and I sure hope Korg takes care of you. I have the super light weight 61 key M50 serial #006023 so it looks like I got one past that batch or so I hope as I really like the M50, after my KronosX and JD800 it's my favorite or the newer generation keyboards I own and pound for pound unbeatable IMO.
We should try to get a list of Serial numbers affected to help Korg out as well as other owners. Good luck and hang in there... Korg usually takes good care of it's customers.

Yeah... same person here.
Let's get those serial numbers, here is mine: 002415, made in Japan
61 keys. I need to further investigate, but disconnecting a electric radiator that was sharing the same AC socket seems to have solved the issue. I spent a couple of solid hours rehearsing all combis with no freezes.

That is really interesting what you wrote...
I updated the OS to 1.1.0 and I was able to play without freezing, so I thought it fixed the problem but after 15 minutes of playing it froze again. Before the update I couldn't play more than few minutes, strange...
Well mine was updated to 1.1.0 years ago and, as said, I started experiencing the freezes a couple of weeks ago. Maybe there is some kind of hardware issue going on that makes the keyboards more sensitive to electrical noise after a couple of years, and a hardware reset -such as updating a new firmware- can somehow mitigate it.
I will try to connect again the electric radiator and see if the issue appears again.
2) costs way to much to buy an identical spare 'just in case'
3) already had my lifetime fill of BSOD type tech issues
Big thanks to the OP and followup posters for highlighting this issue. As i was thinking of buying an M50 specifically as my mainstay, the 'freeze' issue or just the 'fear of freeze' makes it a deal breaker for me.
