You must always mute keyboard's channels at mixer or turn off your PA system before you
power off your Pa3X or any plugged equipment to your Audio system , that's a rule !

This makes no sense, the sound guy could be far off. I upgraded from PA 800 and never had a problem. I went to the dealer and they replaced the PA3X, the funny part is some PA3X units have louder pop noise than others. The one i got now has less noise, but still not accepable. Wainting for some solutions.[/b]

S.O.P. for power supplies. the "popping" is the capacitors discharging..happne on pretty much ALL hardware. Unless they have "soft on" and "soft off" circuitry, which does make the PS a lot more expensive.

It usually causes no grief whatsoever - not like dropping a mic, or turning on a condenser mic with teh channel open ;)

But as Antony suggested if it worries you, simply slide the volume control to 0 just before turning off..

Deepak, I have no idea what you are talking about...what does it have to do with a sound guy :?

btw how did you go with your transposing issue?

A reply would have been nice so I know you no longer need help...

It definitely "pops" when switching to standby mode

Moving the volume control to zero does not help. It still makes a pop noise. The dealer replaced my keyboard with another new one. The previous one was making a lot more louder pop noise. Lol, even the dealer was surprised. Before that I had a PA 800. That never made any noise what so ever. I hope this gets fixed soon. I am beginning to regret the upgrade, lol.

My observation is that it "pops" no matter how you turn it off. It boggles my mind, how come the pop noise level varies from keyboard to Keyboard? are we supposed to try them all and then pick one. When i was in the store i also also compared with the one with 76 keys. That also had the same noise as my existing one.

Well all I can say is the "popping" is there on my PA3 too, but it is rather insignificant...and about par with usual power supply "close-down" operation.

It will, under normal circumstances, cause no damage to speakers...what the OP is describing might NOT be normal, in which case it is better to get it checked by a qualified tech.

LOL!! you should have heard the Mackie SRM 450's when turned off, they gave not just a pop, but a solid thump!!!

Same with some other powered speakers I have used.

An interesting question is whether the OP is using the PaAS system or a separate P.A.? I have noticed a small "clicking pop" through the PaAS speaker - VERY small - when turning off the PA3 when it (PaAS) is connected, but nothing much at all at the P.A. end.

Assuming there is nothing faulty with teh OP's keyboard, then it is just the caps (capacitors) discharging, and there is no cause for alarm.

But it is an expensive bit of gear, so it is better to be safe than sorry - one of the reason I have also removed the battery pack in light of recent information suggesting that even the NEW battery packs are faulty. (another thread)

Paolo advised Korg are checking into it to see if it is a "one-off" or not, BUT I would rather prefer to not risk a battery leak or exploding (EXTREMELY rare) battery pack damage the other circuitry. So until the all clear is given the pack can stay out.

To be honest ... that popping noise is a matter of KorgPa bad designing of audio output module , where a smoothing or muting
logic controlled circuit should react to ground outgoing signal and prevent from this annoying LF output voltage of circuit
components discharging , a real issue that has been corrected at latest production series.
It should had been reasonable if power switch was turned off abruptly , but there is no excuse for a predictable logic based
function as ST-BY mode !

Anyway , older series Pa3X users must get used to that issue , and follow previously token tips !
