Korg M50 Dubstep Sounds "Skrillex"-like

Post by iamtheswordmaster »

Hi there,

I just joined the KORG family with my new M50. Im quite a newbie to the whole synth stuff, I own an old KAWAI K1 Mk II and experimented with a few software synths so far.

Now i'd like to try to develop some cool Dubstep sounds like they're used by Skrillex (for Example: http://youtu.be/cR2XilcGYOo from about 0:26).

I know he uses a lot of software synths like Massive, but I want to create my sounds hardware-based in my M50 so I can use them live without carrying a Laptop with me.

And now my question: Are there any guys out there, who also like to use these kinds of sounds and would be interested in trying to develop them together for the M50 or M3? The synthesis of these machines seems to be very powerful and I guess, we should give it a try...

Looking forward to hear from you guys! :-)

No ideas so far? - I'm experimenting by myself and I'm coming closer to my goal using LFOs and different waveforms. Does anyone know how to control the speed of an LFO via the joystick or one of the knobs? That would help me a lot.

So long,

the Swordmaster

Have you considered the possibility of adding one of these into your mix.

Yes I have. And yes I will. 8)

There's no question about me needing this awesome little tool in my setup. I will get myself one around christmas time, I hope.

But I guess I have to produce some matching sounds with my M50 at first, before i can destroy them with the KP3... ;-)

iamtheswordmaster, I have the same request for my new Korg m50. I'm also a newbie in sound design and music production (well, sorry for the "also", your post was 1 year ago, and you might become a guru in this).
Did you manage to create that "wob-wob" sound with Korg?

I have not been able to automate a wobble-bass effect (I think that's the "wob wob" sound you mention), but it can be done manually. Just use the Knob-2, filter cutoff controller and turn it up & down to get the effect. I think it should be possible to do without playing around with the knob as well. At least the steps are fairly clear to me, i.e.
1) Assign a LFO to modulate the filter-cutoff for a synth-bass sound.
2) Assign another controller to modulate the LFO frequency

But I confess that I could not get this working... I actually gave up, as I was just playing around. I have no need for such wobble sounds, but was just curious how to do it. But I'm pretty sure someone would have managed it on the M50!

Hi raya.sh,

I'm still looking fr the best settings, but I already managed to automate the wobble sound via an lfo und to control the frequency of the lfo with one knob as well as the pitch of the sound with a second knob and the filter frequency with the third knob. But I'm still looking for the right waves and filters... ^^

BTW: I figured out that it works a lot better for me to programm the sounds in the instrument, the software is much too complex in my opinion...
