Krome won't work unless connected via computer

Post by Tristan Ewins »

Hi all; I am relatively new to all this! :)

First priority for now: I've just installed the Krome Editor and started using it - And now suddenly my Korg Krome won't work via the headphones jack anymore. It only works when connected to the Krome Editor via my PC.

Also I'm trying to use the Korg Krome to work with Sonar X3 - but cannot work out a way to record from the Krome (using its voices etc) into Sonar...

When I use the software synths via Sonar X3 there's a delay as well. I guess a better sound card would help? Anything else?

I have other issues, but first things first. :-)

Without knowing a bit more about how you have things connected it's difficult to say. But since a PC and Sonar are involved it could be that "local control" is turned off. Sonar turns it off when it starts up and this turns off local control of the keys. In other words the midi events have to go into the computer and back to the Krome.

For your first priority go to global mode and check the local control parameter. Make sure that it's on.

Thanks I will see if that makes a difference! But how do I access global mode on Sonar X3?

Global menu is on the Krome; for lack of a better term call it your "administrative" privileges are still there so you should be able to pick voices and switch modes (combi/single) but because "local control" is off the keyboard won't control the engine - only MIDI-in (from your computer) will drive the synth if Local Control is off.

The Global button on the Korg should get you to the controller options where local control (on) can be restored.

I'm not a Sonar user - I'm not sure its preference for world domination can be curbed -- in other words you may be stuck with restoring local control after each session with Sonar.

Ok - I've accessed Global via the touch display re: the Korg Krome; But cannot see any option to restore Local Control.... Though hang on - I see something about that via the Krome Editor... Having a look now...

The Global Menu may have several pages that you need to access using another button. If the Krome runs true to form with Triton and other synths pushing Global gets you a limited "front page" and the other, hidden pages give you more in-depth control options such as the elusive "local control", MIDI filter, optional controller assignments, etc.

You can setup Sonar to turn local control off and on at startup and shutdown. Add these parameters to your TTSSEQ.INI file. You will at least want to add SendLocalOn=1. In WIndows 8 it should be located in folder C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\SONAR X3 Producer

SendLocalOff=0 or 1. This line determines whether or not SONAR should
send a Local Control OFF message during startup.

SendLocalOn=0 or 1. This line determines whether or not SONAR should
send a Local Control ON message at exit.
