Questions about compressing samples on the PA3X

Hi all,
about two months ago I have purchased a PA3X-76 and, after installing the optional 128 Mb of RAM and filling the memory with the samples from my old PA2X, was intrigued by the possibility of compressing the samples themselves, thus doubling the capacity of the RAM up to 512 Mb.
So last week I decided to try this option, and the first thing that put me off was a warning saying that the whole process could take up many hours. Nevertheless, I decided to go on but after about 5 hours, when it was finally over, was horrified to find that many samples had sonic artifacts, usually in the form of a high pitched whine, making them useless.
Luckyly, I had my old set stored in the hard disk, so it was easy to reload all the samples in their uncompressed format and now everything is fine, but I am puzzled and would like to know if anybody has tried this compression procedure and if the results were satisfactory.
In particular, did you notice any artifacts? The quality of the samples was the same as before? The loading time was unchanged (i.e. was instantaneous) or was there a slight delay, especially with large samples?
I am asking because the temptation of loading more samples is great and it looks indeed a pity not to take advantage of this opportunity the PA3X has to offer.

How do you do I from Russia! I compressed sounds and no nor what change-quality is changed and all orderly sound, it is necessary all do first in korg pa3x rather then with korg pa2x

Artifacts mostly happens when your custom percussion samples have been created in older PaSeries and unfortunately
seems that translated lopped in Pa3X !

Also check all contents of your custom samples , that must not be grayed out , since this also effects compressing
functions with sonic artifacts and delays , and those samples must be deleted !

Thank you for your replies; my samples were indeed created on the PA2X, so maybe this is the cause of the problem. Pity...

Dreamer Don't feel disappointing !
I'll propose you a tricky solution to avoid sonic artifacts and save enough space with compression !
So taking for granted that percussion spliced mode samples cause that looping artifacts then explore which
User Sound Bank (except DK) hosts these data sliced samples , in order to avoid loading (for example User 2) and then :

1) Save your set in save all form
2) In sounds/record/sample edit/screen drop down menu /delete / choose delete all samples & multisamples.
3) Open your.SET saved set / open sounds / and load partially User 1/User 3 and User 4 (if exists) omitting User 2 & DK bank.
4) In that point recall samples compression.
5) After compression of previous banks , continue loading User 2 & DK where suspicious samples are contained

Now you have all your resources semi-compressed saving a big amount of memory space !
