What's wrong with the Download section?

I've tried several times to get my TR61 to read files from the Downloads section, but all I get when trying to load PCGs is "memory overload" or "No readable data." I dumped each entire downloaded folder onto an SD card and the TITLES show, but no bloody sounds results. Am I supposed to load ONLY the PCGs from those folders onto the SD card? There are no instructions, sooo... is that data corrupted and now just a bum deal? Or did I miss a step? PCGs from Kid Nepro load up right away, so why are these failing? Help!

Which files are you trying to load specifically?

Orch, Lex, Vocal and Rose2, plus a few others. I don't have the list in front of me. If they are PCG files, why do they not read properly? The TR keeps telling me there is no readable data or that there is a memory overload. Odd.

Memory overload will usually occur when you are trying to load samples without sufficient RAM available.
If you have not even installed any RAM in the LE/TR, then you won't be able to load .KSC/.KMP/.KSF files.

Also you may have some trouble loading PCGs created on certain other models that were released after the keyboard.. for example the Karma, whilst a Triton, can't load files saved from the LE/TR keyboards.

Also, most of the modern Korgs use the 'PCG' format for saving Programs, Combination, and Global data. It does not mean they are intercompatible. For example you won't be able to load PCGs from the Kronos/Oasys, or the M3/M50/Krome, or the Trinity. You can only load PCGs created for the Triton series.

The sample files are however entirely intercompatible, to my knowledge.

If you 'open' rather than 'load' a PCG, you can drill down to the specific bank or even programs you want to load, rather than overwriting your entire keyboard's settings by loading the whole PCG (which may not even be possible if the file is created on a Triton which had more banks available than you have on your LE/TR).

AHA, clarity! Thanks! I never installed RAM, preferring to use the TR as just a synth rather than a sampler. I have better, software-based sampling means. This is the first time its been an issue. I didn't consider the sampling board to be cost-effective for me. I doubt I'll go hunting for one just to add a couple of libraries. I have plenty of resources, including several TR volumes. Its a lovely little powerhouse.

Yes, each Korg has its own unique corners. I had to let down a newbie who thought he could build an 01W with 3 or 4 motherboards from an 05rW. Nope! WAV data is universal; everything else is downstream in its own ways. Thank you for the pointers, especially about KSCs. Its resolved.

You don't need the EXB-SMPL unless you want to create/edit samples and process audio input on the TR/LE. RAM is installed on the main board and is all that is needed to load sample files from media.
