Electronic sounds for m3

Post by georgeinar »

Does anyone know where I can purchase/download more modern electronic sounds for the m3? I am interested in playing around with dubstep and more edgy electronic sounds and am running short. I've checked out kidnepro but I don't see anything new in there, I got their vintage stuff. I downloaded the pc software called dubturbo and it's got great sounds for what I want to do, but I would love to have them in my m3 for the sequencer and the ribbon joystick and other controls on the m3. I love sequencing on the m3, but I'm running out of sounds.

I do know I need to drill down into the programs I do have and learn how to tweak them to give them a fresh sound. I've done a little of that so far to some success.

There are lot of electronic sounds for the M3, free, and not free...
Can you explain me what you mean by "more edgy electronic "? there is a list at karma lab forum, with all the available free sounds for the M3, also there are some soundsets, not expensive...

I'm talking in-yo-face hits and sound effects and buzz synths, exactly like what I'm hearing in dubturbo for dubstep styles. Think Deadmau5 style of music. I'll check out karma lab, I haven't looked there. Thanks.

Hi George,
Funny you should say "in yo face". Reincarnation for M3 may be up your alley. Go to this link http://www.karma-lab.com/store/index.ph ... ucts_id=47, click on Audio Demos and you'll see the first one up is "In Yer Face".

You could also check out Catalyst v 1 http://www.karma-lab.com/store/index.ph ... ucts_id=34.

If you don't already have these two collections from Karma-lab, they are worth checking out.
Cheers,

Another excellent (but very non-free) option is getting the Radias board. That's only synth stuff (basses, leads, pads, sweeps, fx), nothing sampled, but can sound a lot edgier than what your "standard" M3 is capable of (since it's basically an entire new synthesizer inside your synthesizer).

I have the Radias and use it constantly. The sounds I'm interested in are the sorts of sounds that are used in dubstep, harsh rhythmic sounds with variable bpm's, also they have a lot of wah and flutter effects. The m3 is capable of making these sounds to some degree. I'll keep searching. I'm half thinking I may try to sample some of the sounds that dubturbo has and try to get them into the m3 memory. IT's just that's a lot of work and I'm not so sure how useful they will be if they're not programmed correctly.

With the radians there is no reason why u can't create these sounds. Its like the old saying. Feed some1 for a day. They only eat for a day. Teach them how to fish they eat a life time. Learn how to fish(program your sounds)

That's what I am doing. But I'm not a sound engineer, I'm a musician. So for me to have to re-engineer a bunch of sounds, while it's interesting to do, it takes time away from composing. I'd rather shell out some money for a package that's been produced by someone who excells at sound engineer so I can excell at song writing. Also, dubsep is new to me and I'm finding it quite challenging to even get some of the basic sounds to come out of my m3.

I don't mean to criticize your workflow, but I think a lot of modern dubstep and electronic music is powered by good sound design. While it's certainly possible to make a nice mix browsing through 1000s of patches, you could also invest the time in learning your synth and making it do exactly what you want. It might be actually more inspiring once you get past the initial hurdles.

And should you have any questions about programming your Radias, always feel free to post them in the Radias section.

I'd love to hear what you come up with. Maybe I'll post some loops I"ve been engineering in 'dubstep' style. Having no experience and having only just became aware of how cool dubstep can be, I am very limited and resorting to imitating the songs I've been listning to. I know the music they've been using on "So You Think You Can Dance" for dubstep style is really awesome sounding and strikes a good nerve in me when I hear it. It's raunchy, unpolished, porous, animated, scratchy and raw. What I hear is little if no reverb, except in certain accent notes which are extremely 'reverbed.' And sparse as well, so the sounds have to be fat and rhythmic. There are some aspects of songs by, say, Deadmau5 that I don't like, it often takes forever for the song to build, or really long interludes on a 10 minute song. I know I don't have the patience for such long epics, but there are very cool things in dubstep and you don't need vocals, that's the part I like. It's the perfect blend of house/tecno with an edgy rock-ish sort of feel also. I do want to learn the Radias better though, so point well taken. I am learning better how to tweak the sounds I have to make them more brassy or introuce a wah sound to the pad. My last cd is just finished so I'm psyched to branch out into something a bit different.

I'm very intersted in how the M3 might be used to create some dubstep type sounds as well Grime I'd love to hear what you come up with. I too am new to sound design and have to balance family time with band time with sound design and since I'm so new it's nice to get tips and patches shared by others. So thanks!
