I mean, I would like to know if anybody here have changed their Tyros for the PA3X?
(Not PA2X or lower, I already did and doesn´t liked at all)

I had a tyros.. It sounds cleaner, better soundcard in it perhaps..
Like its dynamik sound of styles.. nice guitarr fx.
But pa3x was overall a better chooise of the good futures in OS.
if the yamaha had the same nice OS i would go for that one.

Hi fResH_ (tough name, isn´t it?)
I think that´s the curse of Yamahas!! On the majority of stereo sounds, are stereo by a pre-processing. They sound out of phase when in mono and too bright and nasal sometimes...I think it´s fake stereo
The drums are too damn weak!! Even increasing the volume and lowering the other instruments are too fake!! The basses are too boomy or too shallow. None sounds close to a real bass (sorry but I´m a bass player first)
How do you compare pianos, drums, basses, brass between tyros and PA3X?
Do you play it live or at home/studio?
Thanks for the help!!

I didn't have a Tyros nor a PA3X.
But I did have a Korg PA500 and switched to Yam PSR S910.
I think you can compare this in a similar way (although they are in a different price range).
I liked some of the sounds of the S910, but never got happy with the overall sound of the keyboard (styles and sounds combined).
And I really hated it's OS. I missed the Shift-STS-button, to store all my settings (Upper and Lower hand) in one go.
Also, Korg's Songbook is way superior to Yam's MusicFinder.
Korg's drums & basses are also much better than Yamaha's (my opinion), which gives the styles a better "live" feeling.
Of course it's very much a matter of taste, but I'm happy I changed back to Korg (PA800).
I think it also depends a lot on the kind of music (genres) you like to play.

Re: Anybody here comes from a Tyros (2,3,4)??
I have both T4 and Pa3x. Going back a few years ago I had T2, PA800 then Pa2xPro. I missed Yamaha sound, then went back to the Yamaha s910. When T4 was released I upgraded to the T4. I like the T4 very much, but since getting the Pa3x and getting the Pa3x set up to my liking it is now my go to keyboard. I would not sell the T4 since it has some great voices on it, great varitey of sounds. But the Pa3x has it over the T4 with a more live sound. The T4 has the advantage of the SA2 voices, they are hard to beat.Jo Martins wrote:Hello People!!

For live play the layout of the Pa3x is better in my opinion, controls are only a short distance away from the keys. You can key your hands on the keys and easily reach to make changes with the most used controls.
Since I've owned Korg in the past the learning curve was not that great relearning or refreshing my memory on the how to. Overall I'm satisfied with the Pa3x. I would have a very tough time deciding which keyboard to sell if I could only have one. Right now the edge would go to the Pa3x.

Finally two persons own both keys!!! Lucky Guys!!
The thing is I can´t gig with two keyboards. I need it to perform live, not studio work.
Could you tell me: Is the ac piano sound better in pa3x than t4? (I´m a pianist and I don´t like t4 pianos). Is the pa sax sound acceptable? (I have all premium yamaha saxes, superb! but I got better reactions from people when I play piano sounds, but I love to do sax solos.
Is the drums/percussion and bass so different (better) live?
I play mostly latin music but love to play funk, r&b, jazz, smooth jazz. How those styles compare between this keyboards?
Have you tried to convert t4 styles to play in pa3? How they sound? Is too difficult? I have several styles I would like to play in pa3
And finally, coming from a yamaha, the learning curve for korg is too difficult? (my last korg was a Trinity. Loved that keyboard!!)
Thanks a lot for your responses Asena and Stephen!!

Jo

I just forget!!
I use a lot the registration feature in t4: I have different setups for the same song, for example, one in latin with proper instruments, other in ballad, other in jazz, etc, etc. Sometimes I use the registrations to change sound setups and mix different instruments in several parts in the same song. Very usefull!! How can be done this, in real time, in pa3?

All my opinions below and personal taste.
I can't gig with 2 keyboards either but I'm lucky to be able to own both.
I think the acoustic piano on the Pa3x is better.
The Saxes are good, but I prefer Yamaha saxes.
Yes the drums to me are better, sometimes when I'm rehearsing with headphones on and a styles ends with a cymbal sound I almost thik there's a live drummer in the room with me.
I like Latin styles too and there are some good ones. Same goes for r&B and funk. I don't play much smooth jazz can't comment too much on those.
I have never tried to do style conversions.
I think Yamaha OS is easier to use, it did take me some time to pick up on the Korg OS, but it's not too difficult, just different than Yamaha.
Good Luck

Hi Dani
Thanks for the links. I already know them. The latin usb stick exist since several years.
I mean the internal latin styles. I would like to compare them with the internal ones from pa2x, which I think are awful and unrealistic.
To be fair, the internal latin styles from T4 are as bad. I program my own. But it really helps having already the styles, like the Audya. Excellent styles, the most unreliable keyboard i ever played!!!

Hello Jo..
Its a matter of taste and what type of music we all play that make us like different things about this keyboards..
Im preffering most drums from Yamaha over the KORG.. I have even sampled (stereo) the ones I like from Yamaha T4 and almost use them only in KORG. Ofcourse other drumkits too, like nashville etc etc im using. Korg and yamaha dont have the best drums overall.
But still it sounds cleaner in Yamaha - better sound engine i think. (you can tweak the EQ on both keyboards on board)
And in your genre I dont know what will fit you best for sounds and drums.
I like to play on the yamaha piano more then korg. maybe bc I have played on the korg to mutch? but korg have some nice piano too
Strings are more dynamic in yamaha i think. In korg I dont use the internal strings, I use samples.. But in Yamaha i could mix whit the internal and whit my own to get a nice sound.
I didnt have t2 to long.. but i before that had a psr9000 along time, and I was playing live whit it all week. And I had the clean power and right dynamic of live drum. (it had a nice touch of feeling for my type of music genre)
I dont use alot of intern styles, most my own styles I make.
But if im sitting down and listen to both intern styles, i get more satisfaction from the yamaha.
But I like my pa3x alot now. Its a matter of how good you can program it. (here the korg is leading whit full editing option compared to yamaha)
I had pa2x before that, and had pa1xpro. And Im using this most for live stage and not in studio purpose.
Ketron Audya sounds great on all demos ive heard on the internet. but never got my hands on it, I love how it sounds. Ketron would beat both korg and yamaha in drum and sounds i think. it sounds more real, and the guitarrs too.
Hope you find any good latin styles
