New Kronos 88 here!

Post by SteevoJAM »

Hello all!

Yes.... oh yes.... I have saved.. and last week I bought my very own Korg Kronos 88!!!

After reading so many posts on here (thankyou!)... watching endless you tube videos and reviews until they came out of my head ;-).... I had to have one!

Love it... !!! So impressed with the Pianos and especially the feel of the keyboard.

I come from a gigging background with various synths and E. Pianos and its been several years since I gigged due to starting a family.
Over the last 6 months I've sold the complete lot of my gigging equipment, to try and fund an 88.
I started looking at the M3... then the PA2X... but the Kronos seemed to me, the best all rounder to do practically everything I needed.

Not sure where the last week has gone.... man.. this is some kit! I play in the evenings when the children have gone to bed... rush some dinner down me and the 'ON' button goes on ...its about 9pm... I play.... I dabble... I find some fab combis... I play.... erm... its now 3am in the morning lol !!!!! :-)

My Wife has been saying I'm having an affair with my keyboard!

I can see this taking over my life...lol... is this something I should be aware of???? ;-O

Anyway, I'm finding this new beast challenging as its just so advanced.
You can go right down a rabbit hole and get lost in its complexity and power.. not that I'm complaining...but I'm probably like most men... I want to run before I can walk lol

I have a few questions;
I have used in the past Standard MIDI files into a Trition LE for gigging. I loaded these into the Kronos and all the voices are completely different. I go and change them and save but when I locate to the start, all voices change back. I'm guessing this is a program message/ change thats in the file itself but I cannot seem to make it work unless I start a new one and create the song completely from scratch.

Also, I've noticed my 88 was shipped with the operating system 1.0.8
So I assume I should update to the latest asap?

Welcome and congrats on a great keyboard choice as I recently purchased an 88 of my own and concur with your assessment of superb piano and excellent keybed feeling!

Congratulations! Looks like we joined the owners club about the same time. I know what you mean about the rabbit hole. Start playing and three or four hours goes by and it seems as if its only been one.

As for your questions, yes, it seems there is a program change within the midi file. You can go to the track editing screen and then choose the event editor and then delete the program changes which are most likely at the very beginning of the track. Save the songs to disk afterwards.

As for updating, 1.6 has worked fine for me but apparently there are a few bugs concerning Karma (mainly if you want to edit/alter the GEs) so some people are currently recommending upgrading to 1.5 until this is fixed in an even later version. With 1.5 you'll still get the extra banks, but you can't use the editor (which is of questionable value anyways).

Enjoy your 88, I'm certainly loving mine!!

this is the same thing that has hapenned to me... finishing dinner, all other watching tv, turn on my kronos.. after i finished playing it, everybody has gone asleep (1 am! :o )

i suggest you update your kronos to 1.5, as many people experienced more bug in 1.6... but you cannot use your editor in 1.5...

congrats again and have fun!
Love my kronos 88 :D
Love my yamaha psr s910 as well

Thanks for the warm welcome ;-)

I've been playing around with the Track editor in SEQ and its now clear to me I can simply turn off any MIDI program change/ volume or other events, thanks!

I'll update to 1.5 later tonight.

Do I really need to go to work this morning.... can't I stay at home with my 88 ??? lol ;-)
