Is pre-delay possible?

Post by mtlkeys »

Hi,

I'm not sure if I'm using the right terminology of 'pre-delay' in my post title.

Is it possible to delay the generation of a sound by a specific time or beat interval after the note is pressed?

I am not talking about the amp envelope attack (where the sound gradually gets louder but still starts at the time the note is pressed.)

I am using a gated-type sound with an immediate attack and immediate release. I would like this to start sounding, say, 100 ms after the key is pressed.

Is there any parameter that would let me do this on the m50?

Thanks a lot in advance.

You mean like running the output signal from the M50 through something like a delay pedal? If nothing else, you could employ this method, but you'd either have to use Mono out, or have a delay pedal with two inputs subjected to one effect with two outputs

Not exactly...

I actually want to create a split with the same sound on both sides, but one delayed by 100 ms (different noted being played, of course - if not I could just add delay on the one sound).

Any way to do that?

Offhand, I don't know whether this can be accomplished for live, on-the-fly playing. It is possible in sequence mode to delay a track in milliseconds. If you had two tracks with the same voicing, you could delay one by the desired amount of time. But I think this only applies to MIDI that has already been recorded.

I also don't recall whether you can set up split zones in sequence mode (I'm at work right now - not in front of the keyboard).

If it's at all possible to do, I would think it would be in sequence mode. If someone could jump in here and clarify...

Edit: The answer might be found starting on Page 156 of the Parameter Guide for Sequencer Mode. There is also information starting on Page 99 for Combi Mode.

Actually, I think senility is setting in. I used the delay feature in Combi Mode just last week when I was experimenting with settings for a cover of the Beach Boys' "California Girls". The intro has three layered timbres, two of which have individual delay settings applied.

Here's how it came out:

Here is the page in Combi Mode:
