Korg Kronos fat soounds?
I know its not a fat analog synth, but do some of the patches out bass the Virus? Or vsts like Diva?
I will not know till Tuesday. I never bought any korg romplers for BASS, the prophecy did decent bass though but horrid leads cause of the aliasing. I kind of got this synth for the bells, the bright sounds, and the cool pads and strings, and the guitars and sound fx. And LEADS thanks to low aliasing osc in all the VA synths. All the things analog snobs hate about this synth that I like, i love the korg workstations for texture and pretty sounds.
I bought sylenth1, and man it does leads ok, splash verb on em and they sit great. But for the life of me, i cannot get sylenth1 synth to do fat bass for the life of me, it just cannot.
So it looks like if i want fat bass i should get a minitar and pair it with the kronos and this should get me to fat land..
I know no VA can be fat like a Phatty or mini, or minitar. Having a kronos paired with one of these would be the ultimate i think.
oh and PS:
If you have made some FAT patches, can you please put it up on soundcloud?

It is the fattes bass sounds from a Workstation I know of
I have played MOOG Taurus 3 and I do not need that now
Just try the demo

Getting some pretty fat bass out of MS20Ex when using voice unison. Each patch also has its own dedicated EQ which helps a lot.
PolysixEx also seems to do the job quite nicely.

Yes, the Moog basses have a special sonic flavor, but apart from that, there are more than enough fat Synth basses already there, if you scroll through the Kronos programs in the bass/synthbass category. This is a category, where the Kronos offers all you need from Polysix, MS20 and AL-1 sounds, plus some useful samples in HD-1.
Definitely no critical category in the Kronos! You get as much fat low end as you want and need from the Kronos alone. The Access Virus, by the way, which I like for other reasons, is NOT really fat in the low end, nor does it have a brillant, overtone rich high range, like analog synths do. It's just estremely flexible and sonically clear in the midrange, which togther with arpeggiator, modulation matrix and onboard effects makes it so versatile in everyday use.
And then, when you have found and used these Kronos synth bass sounds, and tweaked some own to your liking, then you can still add some other flavors just for fun. But thinking about alternatives before even receiving the Kronos, and exploring it for at least 2 months, that certainly doesn't make too much sense to me.

nice discussion... not owning kronos, but owned trinity with moss and currently owning m3 with exb-radias and m50 along with some analog stuff (voyager, eurorack, MFB)
i have to say that with M3 / M50 is perfectly possible to create really fat and interesting lead sound and bass sounds that live work very well.
the point is that to have such sound using korg you have to work mainly with FX, using just oscillator and filter is not enough.
i am also quite realistic in saying that anyway you will perceive the difference between a real anlog synth (even low cost as MFB) and sounds from M3/M50.
if you really need "that" analog sound, go with analog stuff. just to say... if you need/want The Moog sound, then buy a Moog...

I see. That explains a lot! Thanks. I don't have the Karo sounds.
I've been thinking about using bass pedal type sounds in my prog rock song but I guess I'll just have to make one from scratch. That's not too hard to do though. I'll probably use the P6 and MS20 together in a program.

jeremykeys wrote:It is a really difficult sound to do. I actually think the MS20 on its own comes closest but the filters are the wrong slope. But you can get that mildly-driven dual oscillator phasing (that doesn't drop out at the anti-nodes) that defines the Taurus sound.jimknopf wrote:Jeremy, the Taurus Sounds are from a Karo library (not Kronos onboard sounds)-

So far today I've only fooled around with dual Polysix patches. It sounds fine for what I want in this particular setting. I already have quite a bit of low end information going on so a big thick sound will only cause problems. I've sometimes found a pure sine wave down in the bowels of bass-land can work for giving one some serious rumble.
Of course it all depends on the EQing of the rest of your sounds. I'm working in a rock area with double kick drum patterns and an electric bass as well.

Hi HexFix
Did you use the sub OSC on AL1 when you are tweeking a program ?
This will give more strongness in the Bass ends.
If you have an example of what you call fat sound and a midi file may be we can try to reproduce with a Kronos ?
Some of us here in this forum could try to produce a Kronos patch which match ?
Cheers.

hey Hexfix. I noticed that you said 10 songs on your lp. Are you doing it on vinyl? If so, very sweet!
