Monotribe most wanted features

Post by mihu »

I've been using the Monotribe for just a couple of days and like it a lot. System version 2 adds valuable features, but there is still place for improvement. Below I've listed a couple of features I miss most.

[1] Time-stretch
16 steps for the drum parts is a sensible minimum, but really limits the synth part. I would like to run the synth part at half or quater speed of the drum part. In general there could be sort of playback control for half/double/etc., independent for synth and drums.

[2] Transposition
It can be simulated using square wave LFO (rate at minimum), but this is just a dirty workaround.

[3] Active step reverse
You can use active step to make two sequences (verse/chorus), but switching between them can be tricky. Double-clicking active-step button could be used for switching between active and inactive steps.

[4] Random LFO alternatives
I don't like when something is wasted and this is the case with wave select switch in sample&hold mode. Personally I would love a hard/soft-synced osc or sub-osc (the lfo can go into audio range!). If this is not possible then tremolo, raising saw, or a different random generator. Anything seems better then no choice.

[5] Playback scrambler
Reverse and shuffle/de-shuffle for the synth part.

[6] Arpeggiator
Octave up/down or any other interval in fact can be simulated by the square wave lfo, but this takes the lfo away.

[7] Off-beat drums
When triggered simultaneously the drums mask themselves. Optionally they could be triggered slightly off the beat to prevent this.

I am posting this here in a hope that Korg not only hosts this forum, but it reads it as well. :)

Best regards,
Michał

Yes... I wonder how Korg can be reached. I'd like to submit some [OT] KO2/miniKP2 new features, but they don't seem to be eager for this kind of feedback. Tried via webform, FaceBook, via email, no luck.

I've encountered only one vendor that provides official contact form for such comments - TC-Helicon. Korg directs you to your distributor, which is basically a reseller and has usually little influence on product development.

Well, here's the best way to get your ideas to Korg, then now have a Facebook page asking for product improvement ideas:

I was already aware of that page. Should you have the courage to read the entire thread, you would find my remark at [1].

Sorry, I'm losing my faith in Korg being interested in customer feedback. I'll give it one more try: a snail mail to Korg Japan. $%#%$ Net. That's how far we have come: the internet is one noisy space, nobody is even listening to you any more (except the few people following specific threads, or just tracking replies to their postings).

Sorry for trying to help. Next time I'll try to muster the "courage" to be perfect.

[OT] forums...

Post by axd »

Sorry, I was a bit too harsh.

It's only that I have two issues with forums:

1/ there is an infinite repetition of information that should end up in a wiki rather than having users oblige to search forums for answers, wading trough tons on unrelated or often wrong (though well-intentioned) answers.

2/ the internet is becoming so vast that people are increasingly finding it difficult to find information - a good example is that Korg thread on FB: there are so much replies that it is unfeasible to read them all.

It is true. Thank you for the apology.
