Pads are like single-track Styles, that can be triggered by using the dedicated PAD buttons. They can be used to play in realtime single sounds, as well as short, cycling sequences that play in time with the Style or Standard MIDI File, and are transposed according to the recognized chords. (From PA3X manual, page 28).
Ekomusic made a lot of user pads using audio sample, and it calls them "groove pad": if you load this file (50MB) you have a lot of user pad that you can use on factory styles. If you use Ekomusic styles (remixed) you have new pads already set. The Audio Groove and Midi Groove are explained on Pa3X Advanced Edit Manual.
Unfortunatly after loaded groove pads my boot time is over five minutes: I haven't understood if this is a general behaviour of PA3X or only a subset of them. If I delete multisamples (that are used from instruments of Ekomusic pad) the boot time returns normal.
Ciao,
Claudio
