I know of a seriously good AKAI disk if that's any help.

Highly recommend this one too. The OASYS reads the AKAI data beautifully.

Hi,

yes I bought it and found the duduk very playable. Of cousre it does not replace a real player but for my need it was good. The CD covers also other winds so it is worth the price. Best Service btw has released also something called "Desert winds" and you can download a demo there of a duduk which sounds very promising.

Hi Cello,

Ilio is the distributor, Dirk Campell the engineer who sampled the sounds.

@shahab: i recorded a quick demo with Oasys drone and duduk to give you an impression:

Hi SoulBe -

That is very good indeed. I have that library and load some of the Duduk sounds onto my OASYS by default (but not all of them). However, I have never been impressed by it - now I know - from you - that it is mostly that I was not playing it well enough.

Could you indicate what program you used; and a few quick tips on how you played it. For example - have you set it to Mono? And the trills - are they you manually playing them or another program or articulation through a MIDI controller? Finally, are you playing a particular mode or Armenian scale, or are you playing thourgh 'feel' and in that way achieveing the middle-eastern tone?

Very good, and very encouraging - I'll have to put more thought into the use of this otherwise excellent library on my OASYS.

You may be insterested in BelaD Anthology Spiritual Winds. Its not for OASYS but for NI Kontakt - and it posesses a Duduk with a lot of articulation capabilities via Kontakt Scripting. I own it but have never used it (only now configuring my lovely new MBP) but by all accounts its very good and when I contacted them when I bought it to see if it was availabel on EXS24, they indicated it was only possible to produce this qualtiy of Duduk on Kontakt because of its scripting capabilities needed for sophosticated realtime performance of the nuanced articulaitons of the Duduk. So that might be worth checking out.

Cheers,
Kevin.

Hi Kevin,

thank you for your kind words.

The duduk is played manually without any controler or special scale, no mod wheel etc, the trills are manually played, the left hand is playing the drone on the pads.

I first recognized the duduk sound in the "battlestar galactica" soundtracks and was amazed by the sad mood of the instrument. Then I listened to some youtube vids of real players and try to get near. To be honest I never had to do with middle eastern / Armenian music before as I play Rock, Funk and Soul and the idea of using the Duduk is for a Metal project.

The program I use: I converted the programs from the CD and began with program "Duduk STR. V." This uses one oscillator and two multisamlpes also called Duduk STR. V.
Then I copied the oscillator from the program "Duduk GR V" into the first program as OSC 2. This Oscillator uses the multisample "Duduk GR V".

Then I set the oscillator velocity range of Osc 1 from 001 to 90 and for Osc 2 from 90 to 127, that´s all. If you play hard you get the sample with the grace note and if you play softer the straight sound.

Thank you for your tip about the Kontakt instrument. I´ll have a look at that

I cannot believe it has been more than a year since this conversation...

I was browsing the web to find a good sample of Flamenco for my O and thought to check this topic again to refresh my memory and see if the link was still there...

A question for you pros, if I download any AKAI format sample or sound, would my O read it?? Basically, if I search for any sound in AKAI format on that timespace website, would the results be compatible?

Cheers

Hi,

there should be no problem. I bought the CD world winds and the Oasys can convert Akai Programs. Should be the same with downloaded data.
