Mike, a very nice review, thank you. I own a Kronos because I could not afford an Oasys.
As you mention the build quality and controllers/screen is better on the Oasys and therefore easier to work with. I think if music is a way of earning money, time counts so an Oasys can be justified easier.
For amateurs/enthousiasts and semi professionals where time is of less concern, the Kronos is probably ideal.

Exactly! Owners of the O should appreciate it for the no compromises build and having something that is rare from synth manufacturers - a limited edition pet project, which may not be allowed to happen again in this economy and software age.
I also love what the Kronos represents, which is portability and advancement of my favorite synthesis system, minus the build quality issues I pointed out. Some quality control can solve that. I was seriously thinking of selling my OASYS to get a Kronos, but I'm convinced that letting the O go would be a big mistake.
Now, if you don't have either unit, the Kronos purchase is a no brainer. It's current and will get better with time.
I wish KORG a prosperous future and a lot of Kronos sales, which will enable them to design a successor of the current OASYS successor, which will follow the legacy, the spirit and the philosophy of the great KORG founder Tsutomu Katoh.
Tsutomu Katoh:
"...It is difficult to mention future products, because everything is changing so quickly. However, I have my desires and dreams for products. As a manufacturer supplying tools to create music, I would always like to make products that make musicians really happy..."
"...I always dream of providing useful instruments. Even if the scale is small, a company that can produce unique products is still my ideal. It would be the most desirable situation if we could enable musicians to create works that did not exist before, or if we could invent a new musical style by making unique instruments. We know that other companies copy our products, but I always say to our employees, 'learning from other companies' products is OK, but do not make copies - think and produce your own ideas.'..."
"...I do not think any of the conventional hardware products or software synths which are now in fashion have reached their ultimate form. So inside Korg we are trying to seek the form that is easiest to use without regard to the boundaries of hardware and software..."
And finally one famous and happy KORG customer: Herbie Hancock in his home-studio (watch the video from 10:50 to 11:58 ) where he plays his Kronos-61. You will also see his OASYS-88 (with a broken key!?!) and several Macs: http://www.kaltura.com/index.php/kwidge ... id/2983742 (PBS feature on Herbie Hancock)
Great summary Mike - fairest and most balanced I think I have read. Agree with everything you mention (although I've not played the K88 - I played the K61 for around 4hrs in total).

If it's technically possible to run the new Kronos EP-1 on the Oasys, and if Korg decided to release a version of it for the Oasys, well that would be a beautiful goodbye gift from Korg!
Not to mention what it would do to the re-sale value of the Oasys..
Why Korg should do this ? They want to sell the Kronos and they are not interested in erasing their arguments for the Kronos by putting its new functionalties to the older Oasys...

Well, they could charge for it and make extra revenue for the corporation, thereby reducing the production costs amortised over a larger user base.
This is the second time you've posted such a comment in the OASYS forum - either you have an OASYS and are airing your view or you are trolling. Which is it?
