About Bank "G"
Sorry about the bad translation. My English and Google is not very good.
My question is regarding the bank "g" and its variations. I find all the same and are 8 apart from the original sound. Is this so or just happen to me? What would be the point?

The GM is a general midi standard.
There are 128 GM sounds in the GM bank. However, some of these sounds have variations and these are stored in g(1) to g(9). However, since every bank has to have 128 programs, most of them are filled with duplicates and only some have 'real' variatins (those with a different name).

So, is there not a way to overwrite all of those redundant ones?? I can see that space as being put so much better use perhaps.michelkeijzers wrote:The GM is a general midi standard.

No, it is in ROM, so it cannot be changed. It doesn't really cost much space, but it is annoying that a lot of duplicates GM sounds are shown (in the Kronos this is more or less resolved), but don't count for a similar update the for M50.csteen wrote:So, is there not a way to overwrite all of those redundant ones?? Please write in English, you probably get much faster answers (or use google translator if your English is lacking. However, even not so good English is mostly understood here so give it a try.amiquelagar wrote:Ok. Gran respuesta. Una lastima que no sean todos distintos.

@michelkeijzers,
I have to agree about the annoyance factor.
Many new users may not realize that in addition to being a standard palate of sounds, that most of the GM sounds are also pretty good sounding without FX and that they are single voice programs that can extend polyphony in sequences. Very handy if you do lots of sequencing.
While I have found some of the extended GM sounds very useful, I have to say that the fact that they (the duplicates) have been there for something close to ten years ( first encounter for me was on the Triton Classic) without any modification available as a firmware update or even possible by users is very frustrating.
As a primarily live player, GM has a role for me only if it contributes to voices in a combi. It would be great to have access to multiple variations of the GM sounds on ALL the voices, including drum kits.
Hey, korg, it's about time, neh?

As someone said, GM/GS patches are in ROM and the duplicates don't take much extra space (references rather than instances, in program-speak). If they would all be configurable, it would be a whole different matter.
For those that want to know more:

The alternative would have been to scrap GM/GS entirely, and I don't think that would make sense for those that want to play MIDI GM files.
