Well... getting back on track...
I've fixed the problem with the key bar that was worrying me, so I'm totally happy with everything now.
But I do find it mildly amusing that Robbinhood slagged myself and others off for complaining about the build quality... and now he's cocked up his OS by reinstalling from the disks.
Oh, the irony!

Kronik, could you kindly explain how you did this and add photos if they are able to illustrate the fix?Kronik wrote:I've fixed the problem with the key bar that was worrying me, so I'm totally happy with everything now.
Thanks.
Rhodes 73 Mk1; Kronos 88; Synthex; Electribe EMX-1; Motif XS Rack; Yamaha DX7IIFD; Yamaha MM8; Roland Alpha Juno-2; Roland JV-2080; Tascam FW-1884.
We actually have 8...but you can't see 2 of them as they are private events that we do not list on our calendar.Devnor wrote:You have 6 upcoming gigs in the next 2 months. How does that qualify as touring?PinkFloydDudi wrote: Me though? I'm in a touring tribute band...who I also do all the managing and booking for, on top of being their keyboard player. I'm also involved with 2 original projects that are more for fun than anything else.
Give it a break and lets get back the issues.
We tour almost every weekend. It is not required to play a gig every day in order to be considered a "touring" band.
I'd think having a 40 foot tour bus, having a road crew, playing out of town 3 out of 4 weekends a month or more, getting hotels, food, drinks, all paid for, plus earning cash each gig - gives me the right to say we are a regionally touring band.

Wait what?madbeatzyo111 wrote: As for knowledge and experience, those factors can only determine how trustworthy someone is, but not whether their opinion is right or wrong (which can't be proven as stated earlier). Now, how trustworthy you find somebody depends on their knowledge and experience so yes it's valid to ask for the info, but not if you intend to use it for something adversarial like trying to prove you're right and someone else wrong. That would be uncool.
You have 2 choices...you have some crazy disease that is making you extremely sick. You can either:
1) Go to a medical doctor with a proven track record in medicine and he will tell you that he thinks you have condition "A".
2) Go to your neighbor, a guy who googles things on occasion who thinks that you are sick with condition "B".
Both are opinions.
Which one do you listen to? Both of them because they are both opinions and neither can be wrong?
Knowledge and experience is what opinions are formed from. Those without it...well their opinions do not weigh nearly as high as those with it.
Jordan Rudess says keyboard is good
Guy in basement who uses it once every 2 weeks says it is bad.
Tough decision on who is the more authoratative one to look at for a valid opinion based on facts rather than fanboi'ism isn't it?

Well, it wasn't as easy as I thought it would be (I had an idea earlier in this thread, but that wasn't possible), and unfortunately I didn't take photos.panrixx wrote:could you kindly explain how you did this and add photos if they are able to illustrate the fix?
The right hand end cheek has no plastic below the key bar line, it's hollow, so I used a piece of angle bracket cut to 3cm and simply epoxied it to the inside of the end cheek... It creates a perfect lower lip and gap for the key bar to slide in and out of.
The left hand side was a pain to do as that end cheek is hollow with no lip as on the right side. I used an extended "L" shaped metal bracket epoxied directly to the inside of the cheek... the main problem was that there is a PCB holding the headphone socket just where the bracket needed to be. It just took a bit of trial and error to get it right.
I still have the tiniest bit of movement on the left side (but nowhere near as much as it was), but the right side is now solid.
If I have reason to dismantle the Kronos again (hopefully not), I'll take a few pics.
This is a clear example of the reason why companies spend a ton of money on product endorsements. Some people don't see that an endorsed artist or athlete has an incentive to say only good things about a product that is given to him for free.Jordan Rudess says keyboard is good

To be honest, I don't think Jordan Rudess has much interest in getting synths for free, as I'm sure he could afford any setup he might want. I'm also pretty sure he could walk up to any manufacturer and ask for an endorsement. But he went with Korg and that in itself says something. I agree with your argument in a general sense for lower level endorsers, but someone like Rudess really can say and do what he likes.
He also dropped Kurz, that says something to. When his Kurz failed on him in the middle of a DT concert and Kur couldn't fgure it out, I'd drop them too. If I remember correctly, every other key stopped working/triggering. Bot the rest worked fine. There were no keys the rest of the show. He had Kurz on the phone WHILE the concert was going on...SanderXpander wrote:I'm also pretty sure he could walk up to any manufacturer and ask for an endorsement. Didn't that also happen when he was touring w/ a Fantom G with Liquid Tension Experiment?McHale wrote:He also dropped Kurz, that says something to. THAT could be the one. My buddy who told me about it (an obsessive DT fan) was pretty sure it's the Kurz. But you're probably right.jeebustrain wrote:Didn't that also happen when he was touring w/ a Fantom G with Liquid Tension Experiment?
So tack on another person who thinks that Roland keyboards are junk!

I wouldn't classify these as opinions per se since they can be proven right or wrong. Maybe more like an educated guess.PinkFloydDudi wrote:You have 2 choices...you have some crazy disease that is making you extremely sick. You can either:

I do agree with you that when JR says he prefers keyboard X, I pay attention because I find him a trustworthy source due to his experience and knowledge in the field. But what JR likes I may not like because we have very different backgrounds. In fact, I would tend to place equal trustworthiness on someone who was more similar to me, even though their knowledge and experience might be much lower than JR's.

While Im really, honestly,, absolutely DISGUSTED with the s**t im going through with my OS and bugs... The ONLY thing keeping me on board with korg on it is this simple factKronik wrote:But I do find it mildly amusing that Robbinhood slagged myself and others off for complaining about the build quality... and now he's cocked up his OS by reinstalling from the disks.
Oh, the irony!
Korg has never, ever ever, had a setlist mode in any keyboard, ever. With a brand new feature like this, bugs are bound to happen.... And while im really pissed that the disc i was shipped with my kronos contains an older OS, i will survive... i already found newer disc from a friend. I do think korg really f***ed this up for me. However, build quality is a different story. The build is fine... if youre not the kind of dumbass who uses a gig bag and puts s**t on top of it, it should be fine.
i sprung for the $500 custom flight case from A&S cases. And my kronos has seem some serious road-age so far.. no problems besides bugs, which im sure will be fixed in october

It's pretty much standard that software, drivers etc. shipped with electronic gear is often out-of-date. I certainly always check the web before updating or installing anything, to determine if the shipped media contains the 'latest and greatest version'!robbinhood wrote:And while im really pissed that the disc i was shipped with my kronos contains an older OS, i will survive...
