I played with one at the local pop shop, $195. Pretty limited even at that price in my opinion. Fun though, no doubt.
There on order there also!! Seems all of the world as access to this amazing toystrument but us in Canada. I wen tto a music store in Montréal called Italmélodie that stocks quite everything and plenty music wise and the guys said they got 1 unit last week or so and they have no idea when they are getting anymore. Really want to get it from a canadian, 50$ less buck and no shipping ...

It looks like it's made more for funning around with or as a travel/scratchpad writing aid; but, it doesn't look much more or less limited than a Roland TB-303.
I personally think Korg is going to continue to build on this series of "mono-x" and ultimately culminate in a very professional true analog synth and that they're testing the waters one product- and one part- at a time. At least, that's my hope! A true re-release of the MS-20 or MonoPoly or something completely new (think David Smith MoPho/Tetra).
That's my $.02. Cheers!
FYI, KORG has released schematics for the Monotribe. You can request them via a form on the product page; PDF is emailed to you within 5 or 10 minutes, with all of the obvious patch points labelled as well
Monotribe arrived within two days of my order. Great fun and a very modifiable piece of kit electronically! Yes I opened it up. Wonderful potential
Many solder pads are labelled and the overall schematic can be derived after looking up chip specs etc.
Current kit: Korg Radias R3, Korg KP3, Korg Kaossilator Pro, Korg Microsampler
Korg NanoKeyboard, Korg NanoControl, Korg NanoPad, Korg Monotron, and recently a Korg Monotribe, and now an iPad2
MacBook Pro and Linux PC.
I guess Korg sending the Rhythm section specs to those that request them (me included) are looking forward to user mods and suggestions. As this is the weakest part of the design! We users will be designing the Monotribe Pro!

Even almost one week after the big announcement that Monotribe are shipping, still nothing no where on my side. Anybody saw it yet physically available in a music shop in canada?
Sorry if you haven't got one yet. Hope you get lucky soon - it will be well worth the wait.
Just managed to pick mine up & hugely impressed with it. Much cleaner signal than Monotron, & great workflow - keeps surprising me with what it can do. Hooked up to some effects pedals, Microsampler & DAW, synced it via iPad & it sounds fantastic. Even though I am fortunate enough to have quite a selection of synths, this is a little gem IMO
duperlowrider, Long & McQuade here in St. John's had one at the start of September (and sold it the same day...). I've got another on order through them, and it should arrive around the 21st of September.
No mention of it on their website, but there's no mention of the Monotron either, which they have a bunch of -- they're probably ordering them in very limited quantities.
My girlfriend was going downtown Montreal to get an Haircut and drop by the famous Moog Audio store on St-Laurent where there was Monotribes a plenty!!
Played with it till I drop. Critics says it is limited, but that is the charms of it.
My 18 month son as a blast playing with it since no matter what he touches, an effect is triggered dur to the fact that , well it is simple!
I ordered my Monotribe on the 1st of September and had it in my hot little hands on the 2nd, which is pretty unusual since I live in one of the most remote cities in the world (Perth, Australia) and it had to come 3500km!
I was a big fan of the Monotron, and I'm a massive fan of the Monotribe. Yes, it's limited, but I actually find its limitations help me unleash more creative options than other instruments. I find myself doing things like "playing" the LFO by ear as a second oscillator and really using the controls as a form of expression. It really is a highy playable - and expressive - instrument.
I really disliked the ribbon controller on the Monotron, but have grown to quite like it on the Monotribe. I really like the fact that it allows glides and true portemento. After all, this is an analogue synth and true glides and pitch bends are something that analogue synths trounce digital at, so the ribbon lets you take advantage of that. I find myself learning to play the ribbon as if it's a new instrument, rather than just treating it like a keyboarded instrument. In some ways it's kind of like playing the Theremin I guess, and when you nail it it can be really expressive.
I'm really tempted by doing the MIDI mod as well, so I can use it with an external keyboard. On the other hand, maybe I should just leave it as the fun instrument it is and leave more serious duties to my MS2000...
Hello, I have just purchased a Korg Montribe and I love it. I have been playing with the beast for a good few hours now using the in-built speaker, as well as listening through the headphone jack.
I have now got to a point where I would like the record the audio into my DAW/listen through my KRK RP5 monitors. The Monotribe does have an output jack and the manual explains how to connect it up:
(page 4. OUTPUT jack
Connect the monotribes OUTPUT jack to the INPUT hack of your mixer or powered monitor speakers. The output signal is monaural, but the jack will accept either monaural phone plugs or stereo phono plugs (unbalanced)
I currently have an Audio Kontrol 1 audio interface which has a MIC/LINE input connecting to my macbook.
Could anyone help me and advise me on any connectors that I may need to get the Montribe to run through my DAW/speakers please?
