I can't see that it would have cost much more to put a panel in (as on the underside of the Fantom X6). I'm just glad they designed the Kronos so that it was easy to get at. If the Mobo had been fitted with the RAM slots facing the top panel, it would have been a real pain. I noticed that there was a spare SATA port too...

BTW, the whole procedure took 15 mins, with help from an electric screwdriver - make sure you use the right size cross head driver, you don't want to slip and leave obvious marks on the screw head.

Are the screw heads painted at all or just silver metal?

Cost.

It would be nice if they had made it more easily user-upgradable, though... i.s. an access panel instead of having to take the unit apart. Though I'm sure there would have been manufacturing cost associated with that as well.
Exactly. Might have ended up costing more than simply added the RAM in the first place.

They've missed a marketing opportunity - being able to boast about the available RAM, and how many sounds can be loaded into it . .

until ( and they don't have to) Korg responds to the extra ram attempts, thats conjecture.

It's not too late. They can provide the new Kronoi with 4 Gb.

It'll probably end up like the SD card upgrade on the M3. Korg won't be able to condone it as user installable since it requires delving too deeply into the case (Korg can't be held liable for user-inflicted collateral damage in the process). But they will probably include the extra memory in later production models as an Xpanded version with appropriate OS upgrade to take advantage of the full 4gb(o).

It voids your warranty. Dan has said that Kronos has "no user-serviceable parts inside". Which means, if you open it yourself, you've just voided your warranty. Simple as that.

Nope. Yes, Dan said that. But what matters is what the warranty says. And I just went looking, and I actually can't find a warranty statement in the docs. I do see various cautionary notes about operating the board in the wrong country. Oddly enough, I see no label on my keyboard to the effect that there are no user-serviceable parts in side, nor any label stating that opening the enclosure voids the warranty. There is a label identifying a risk of shock if the enclosure is opened.

Now this may be an oversight, and you can be sure that if you break something by opening up the enclosure it's not going to be treated as a warranty repair. But I don't see anything to the effect that opening the keyboard voids the warranty.

Since I can't find it in the manuals, can somebody point me at the actual warranty document? With all respect to Dan, and with considerable respect for his advice in all respects, Dan's statements neither define nor modify the warranty. I'd like to read the actual warranty for myself.
