Suggestions on what to get to go with my EMX-1?

Post by d33r »

I just got my EMX-1 and love it! I think I want more sounds though, what would be a good product to use as far as this goes? What else can I do? What products go good with the Electribes? Emx-1 in particular.
Thanx :D

I, personally, am the most excited to add a Monotribe to my own studio. They should be on store shelves in a couple of months. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMX-T5Nx4is

Otherwise here are a few ideas:

A Kaoss Pad is a pretty good addition. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owkeBOcC-AQ

A cheap synth wouldn't be bad either (choose your own flavor here. I have a Radias but if I were on the market for one today I'd strongly consider a Novation Ultra Nova). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhaMsKb77_4

A monotron is a cheap option to add a lot of sound. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4h5WN0WTeI

An electribe ESX is a natural choice, too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSdvL0gxY5k

Thanks for the suggestions.
I think im going to go with a kaoss pad 3.
i just discovered that with iElectribe (on the iPad) and my emX-1 , I can run two electribes at once. This will be fun until i get the money for the kaoss pad. :-)

How long have you had the EMX1 for? Is this your first machine?
If yes... don't buy anything and practice for at least 6 months (one year?) on the EMX alone ;)

Good choice on the KP3. It and the EMX play very well together and with a little practice you'll easily be able to do DJ-style transitions using the sample pads.

Some of the effects are cheesy, but many of them have "sweet spots" that you can find if you look.

If you connect them via MIDI (which isn't necessary BTW), I recommend making the KP3 the master clock. They'll stay in time better.

It's totally possible to do a complete live PA set with nothing but these two pieces of gear. Enjoy!

I love my Radias-R with my EMX-1. Sounds like you need a synth from your need from more sounds. Read up on different ones and their sound and compare that with what you are looking to do. For example, IMHO the radias is great at airy pads and rhythmic sequences but I have not been overly successful in getting heavy, aggressive basses.
