I am new to this forum. My Kronos 88 is on it's way. I currrently own a Motif XS. Just wanted to share my experience with this topic. I use electric guitar sounds in live performance so I searched a while looking for something realistic. I tried the Axxe guitar voice bank for Motif. Some nice sounds in there and the demos are nice but it really doesn't work well or sound convincing in live performance. The only thing I have found so far that does is a VST called Real Strat running thru Guitar Rig 4 on my laptop. This sounds amazing and allows you to map a lot of the guitar articulations to various controllers. Takes months of practice to get the hang of it and make it sound right but the result is as good as you can get from a keyboard.

I don't know about the Kronos yet - I have high hopes for it but it is tough for a general use keyboard to compete with a program designed to just one thing.

Looking forward to seeing how the Kronos guitars sound..... Will report back.......

apparently, at least 2. I think somebody mistook Korg and Yamaha for football teams or somethin... but since there's officially no scoreboard, and they're all after our money anyway, i've lost interest. All hail Yamakorweiland.... w/e

besides... everyone knows generalmusic owns all... :P

Haven't read through this entire thread but let me just say as a guy who isn't a "fanboy" for any brand:

The Kronos is awesome. It does many things and gets certain sounds that none of my other keyboards can do/get and will make my life easier and my overall sound much improved.

BUT...it's neither the be all/end all keyboard either. NO keyboard is. The OP is right, IMO--for some "acoustic" based sounds I prefer my Motif classic. I may choose to someday upgrade that board to a later-model Motif for even 'better' versions of those sounds.

So what? Who cares if one board does something better than another board? Isn't that what the entire purpose of different keyboards and brands is SUPPOSED to be about? The new Jupiter 80 sounds exciting to me as well. I HOPE it completely kicks ass on the Motif and Kronos in areas those boards don't really even attempt to touch.

WAAAAAYYY too much time is spent on this board wasted in posts bashing/praising various keyboards and brands (including the Kronos). GROW UP PEOPLE! Can we please spend more time here doing what this forum does BEST---assisting Kronos owners in making their use of this wonderful machine easier and more complete?

I could not agree more - this is supposed to be a Korg forum so why has so much time and effort been spent talking about and comparing with other makes. Suerly, there are forums for each of the other manufacturers.
Rhodes 73 Mk1; Kronos 88; Synthex; Electribe EMX-1; Motif XS Rack; Yamaha DX7IIFD; Yamaha MM8; Roland Alpha Juno-2; Roland JV-2080; Tascam FW-1884.

So you think this should be a Korg-nazi board where no other brands should be discussed or compared at all? What makes you think going to other manufacturer's forums and comparing their stuff with Korgs wouldn't result in the same reply from members on their board?

Forums are for discussions, period. But it's true this particular one is suffering from trollage lately.

YES

No seriously, I am not saying other boards should not be mentioned. What I am saying is that other makes should not be talked about quite so much, with some threads more about the other brands than about the Kronos.

I came here to learn about Kronos, as that is the forum name. I did not come here to be bored to death with discussion about, or comparison with, other boards. If I wanted to learn about Yamaha or Roland (both of which I own), etc, I would go to the relevant forum.

I don't have any problem with other brands being discussed and compared. It's just that it seems like 99% of those discussion are simply people posting to validiate their synth purchases or favorite manufacturers. In other words--USELESS.

Look---we all spent months having a good time speculating about what the Kronos would and would not be and comparing it to other existing boards. That was all well and good. But now the boards are out and in the hands of many members. Can we move on to discussing how to best USE the damned things?

How about 2 Kronos forums:

1) Getting the most out of your Kronos -- this one is for the Kronos owner who is USING the keyboard in the studio or on stage and wants to share real information, tips, tricks, programs, etc.

2) Let's talk about the Kronos -- everything else, including sound/construction comparisons, blah, blah, blah.

This way, #1 users don't need to weed through the #2 stuff which is tedious.

It's not about having an open or closed mind, IMO. It's simply about focus. I asked a (maybe really dumb) question about the Pads on the Kronos which has yet to garner a single reply. Is the question too dumb for the advanced users on this forum?

Maybe. And if so, I'll learn to deal with that. But at the same time we've got pages and pages of discussion about things like the JP 80 manual and whether or not the Kronos fan noise is a deal-breaker or not?

its not so much about bashing product or praising a competitor product . Its the fact that w get so blinkered in our views that we cant even be objective anymore :-) . I am not bashing the Kronos. i would love to have one. It doesnt change the fact that the nylon string guitar is poor. period. Not compared to any othre product. It is just poor. But it has other great sounds.
