First song...

Post by UCanDream »

Okay...no comments! Agreed? Thanks.

When I bought my Oasys this is the very first song I sequenced on it. Funny thing is, I used some GM sounds. What is GM?? General Motors? Sure. Okay, so I was wrong... and so the song started off sounding like crap. LOL! The version on my (soon to be released) CD is a little more refined...Imagine that!

Yeah, it's disgusting...in fact, I sent this song to the forum (shorter version) a long time ago...but I will let you guys hear the newer cut soon.

LOL @ the bass line....hehe!

I hope all is well with all of yaz.
Cheers.

To aggrevate the aural senses...I have included a "finalized" version of "All That Matters." Yes, some of you have already heard it. Thanks for both the sugar and the beating I got for it way back when... I hope this rendition meets with with your approval...

David,

This is really stunning work, by any yardstick. You should be proud. This song is so expressive, yet so free of excess. David Foster has nothing over you.

Keep it coming.

Greg and dranandj,

Thanks a million for the encouragement. Inescapable fact: Musicians want the approval of fellow artists. No ego greed implied here, albeit, much is sought by high-self-esteem seekers. None of that here; thanks much.

I am trying to upload another tune you all may have already heard. I'm not trying to be boring...I'm just excited bout my CD...sorry if I'm redundant in submission. "Lingering" is lingering in its upload time...I'll keep trying. No big loss if it don't get on the air. I'll keep the links to my music in here so nobody gets all ticked off at me flooding the forum with gobs and gobs of selfish me-ism...lol, as if.

Thanks again, guys.
UCanDream aka David

Oh gosh!! The ONLY reason I would upload "Lingering" once again is that it is "finalized." Would you 'critics' believe that this silly song was done in a livingroom? Course, you would. I consulted Oasys in the making of my deficiencies. Heh!!

Oh gosh, I about forgot this...the link: http://www.supload.com/listen?s=qkGJk4

This is really fine work… I could see it in a variety of contexts
a) w/ Kenny Loggins a la his days with Jim Messina
b) if only Michael Landon were still alive and had either 'Little House on the Prairie' or ' Highway to Heaven' still in production , this material would fit those shows perfectly garnering some very lucrative ASCAP or BMI mailbox money.
c) Any Hallmark Hall of Fame TV production
Are you aware of Taxi.com ?
I'm hearing a little too much reverb wash and not enough separation.
How are you mixing ? If you're mixing inside a computer I'd invest in
a UAD card or something similar to take advantage of higher quality dynamics processing (e.g. compressors) and EQs and reverbs… if budget allows
Also , check out 'The Mixing Engineer's Handbook' by Bobby Owsinski
avail at amazon.com It's been an immense instructional help on the art of
mixing for me. This material is really worth the investment of time/money
to me for that really pro result. Job well done - Schweats

Hey SCHWEATS,

Of course you know my 6 months of piano lessons in 1977 fails to deliver me to Loggins and Messina status...not that you implied that.

Taxi? Yes. I heard good stuff and nightmarish details. What do I do with THAT info?

How am I mixing? Would you like a pic of the studio? You might laugh. I'm no engineer, but I have improved a notch in 3 decades. But how do I mix>>? I suppose I should draw a diagram. Nothing very complicated. But I am willing if you are really asking...

UAD card and computer....? Nopers. I'm mostly unskilled, lightly talented, and highly unschooled, and very hopeful. Before now, I had not heard of Bobby Owsinski, unless I overlooked it by another 'Forum'er'. Oh yeah, back to computer inquiry... No. Not in the studio yet. It's just me and my Oasys and a mixer and 80 grand of other gear in an cave with surge protection....lol....seriously.

You gave me good stuff to think about. Thank you. You are another prime example of the wealth of info to be had and shared in this forum. My thanks are huge.

Thanks for your time. I'm gobbling this all up.
Kind regards.

One more tune:

"Lingering." Oasys, M3/73 and Triton Extreme. If I mention a Yamaha that accomplished the guitar strumming for me, will I be reviled and at threat of a ban? Heh....well, yeah, some Yamaha was used for the cool lil guitar strum effect. Ya know why? Cuz I dough know how how guitar is played!! So I used my XS7 to 'pull it off.'

Last note: Yes, Lot's of you guys/gals heard this song already. THIS one is ready for the CD...meaning, "finalized." Sorry for my redundancy.

Cheers.

And while I'm busy embarrassing myself, just for fun, here is the ONLY song that is not completely finished for my CD. This is the 1998 version and it's pretty obvious what the source was....hear that wow and flutter in the intro? Of course, the current version isn't quite the hack job...not to mention that, as always, the Oasys and the M3 are in use with the CD cut.

By the way, besides the 'strumming' guitar in "Lingering" all the other guitars were done on the Triton Extreme. I think I mentioned that when I first posted that song. I still say the Triton EX kicks @$$. Yeah, Kronos whips everything in its own wake. What eva... lol.

Okay, back to this: Title is still in the works. When I wrote it the file name for archive purposes was Spectral Rok. Heheh... nerdy, huh?

Enjoy.

David,

Two thumbs up for "Lingering." My wife heard it over morning coffee and said, "Yeah, I like it."

Parts of it remind me of Jude Cole. Do you know his music?

I like the bass and guitar lines. Are those Oasys sounds?

Awesome! Please continue posting your creations..

Just logged in after a while after getting bored with the crap that's going on the Kronos forum and I was happy to go through something productive!

Keep up the good work, you are a great musician!

Hey guys,

I appreciate the comments and suggestions.

To SCHWEATS, Thanks for taking time to explain and ask stuff. The "too much reverb wash and not enough separation" observation is important stuff for me to hear from other musicians. The idea here is for me to get YOU guys to critique my mix before I get to the point of selling CDs and WAV files online. I figure when musicians are satisfied with what they are hearing then the "average Joe" will have nothing to gripe about, lol. I don't assume that I have the best ear for my own music just because I am composing it... I just know what I am striving for from the standpoint of music content. I'm ordering The Mixing Engineer's Handbook...thanks a million for the reference. My mixing at the moment is like this; a bunch of synths into two different mixers that ultimately get piped into the Oasys sequencer-- this, by way of audio tracks. If that is too vague then let me know and I will sketch it out. I have some, but very little, outside processing. I have a finalizer (TC Electronics 96K) but I stopped using it a long time ago. Before I get CDs pressed I'm having my stuffed finalized by a guy in Denver.

Davidb, Unicorn...thanks a bunch. I'll post a couple other tunes in the next day or two. Unicorn, I go to the Kronos section now and then...lots of discussion there, lots of speculation. I'm sorry to do this but this http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... hp?t=61793 had me laughing so hard I about passed out. I wont even say why...but anyone that has been around long enough to read the claims and the tall tales of a certain forum member knows why this stuff is hysterical. Enough said on that.

I hope everyone is all good. I'll torture your ears with a couple more posts soon, hehe! :-({|= :soundsgood :verycool:
