MicroKORG XL and iPad

Post by Melonbread »

Hi

I have a MicroKORG XL and an iPad and the Camera Connection Kit and I'm just wondering what the possibilities are?

So far I have connected the XL via USB and the Camera Connection Kit and can use the XL as a keyboard controller for apps such as iMS-20. However, is there anything else I can do?

In particular, I'd like to be able to edit my XL patches using the iPad. Editing and tweaking on the fly on the XL is obviously quite tricky given the lack of knobs and sliders, and I'd like to be able to use an app like Midi Touch to control the XL:

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/midi-tou ... 30935?mt=8

However, I don't want to spend £10 or whatever on an app like this if I can't actually send MIDI from the iPad to the XL over a standard USB cable. Is this possible? Or do you need a USB / Midi connector (like the M-Audio USB Uno)?

Thanks in advance for the help.

The only thing that the USB lead carries is MIDI.
You're sending MIDI from it to control your apps when you say you're using the Xl as a controller - that's MIDI

Thanks X-Trade - although I appreciated that I was able to send MIDI from the XL via USB, I just wasn't sure if the XL was able to receive MIDI from the iPad through USB (although I suppose if you can send it might be logical to assume that you can also receive).

In any event I took the plunge and bought the Midi Touch app - and as you suggest, it works perfectly (well, just about perfectly). I can now tweak on the fly and have been able to add x-y pads etc to my setup. Pretty cool stuff.

Cheers
