You select a part and turn on/off the different steps using the 16 keys.
So by 'variation' I'm assuming you mean measures or bars? because you can have up to eight sets of 16 beats which it cycles through. usually denoted by a row of LEDs and a forwards/backwards button.
If you wanted to create a true 'variaion' you can switch to whenever you want such as a fill or alternate rhythm, then you should create that as another adjacent pattern and just turn the wheel to switch to it when you want to bring it in.

typically you can perform that by either muting and unmuting parts, or switching to another pattern whilst it is still playing.
if you chose another pattern whilst it is playing, it will wait until the end of the bar and then change over seamlessly.

You literally just change to another pattern using the alpha wheel, or by programming it into a 'song'.
A song in song mode is just a list of patterns and how long they play for.
For example A.002 plays three times over
then go to A.003 and play eight times over
Then go to B.010 and play that four times over
etc.
etc.
The 16 keys along the bottom are for programming where the actual drum beats occur within a pattern. They are not for switching between patterns.

Not entirely true (pattern set uses the step keys to change patterns) but we don't need to open that can of worms right nowX-Trade wrote:The 16 keys along the bottom are for programming where the actual drum beats occur within a pattern. They are not for switching between patterns.

Oh... I was toying around when I thought of song mode. Lol. I believe I understand now. Thanks for your help.X-Trade wrote:You literally just change to another pattern using the alpha wheel, or by programming it into a 'song'.

I think he should know about Pattern Set if he has to have multiple patterns in a song and doesn't want to use song mode. I just remember my holy s**t moment when i discovered that mode of changing patterns, completely changed how i ran my band at the times sets. Allowed for easy set list changes on the fly in a show.

I'm not actuall an E_X user myself (Just ER-1 and EA-1). Could someone elaborate on what Pattern Set does?
