Nice combination: PA500 and Ketron SD2 Orchestral Wizard

Post by Fransman »

A few days ago I received my new toy: the Ketron SD2 sound module.
When I plugged the little thing in my PA500 I really could not believe my ears.
Wow, that sounds absolutely magnificent & stunning!
Piano's and e-piano's twinkle and shine, as do most of the other sounds: guitars, brass, flutes and horns, it's all in the little machine and they all sound great!
The self chosen alias "Orchestral Wizard" really does apply here!

Many thanks to John, one of the forum-members here, who came up with this idea.
A great idea for everyone who want to wash up (or extend) the soundlibrary of their PA500 for a reasonable price-tag (and who doesn't want to go to the soft synth area).
Also a great compliment to Ketron, SD2 looks like 100% quality gear to me.

Here's what I did:
- Korg PA500 midi OUT -> Ketron SD2 midi IN
- Ketron Audio OUT -> Korg PA500 Line In

I hope that I interpreted your question correctly,
parceque ma Francais n'est pas très bien...

Tony,

Sent you an email.

good to see that Frans is so pleased with this set up. I had it for a while myself and it is an absolute killer combination. You can actually program and save SD2 settings on the Korg PA-500. Many of the Ketron sounds are at least as good as the PA, many of them are better and the acoustic piano is a must-have !!!
YOu can now pick up a new SD2 module at most shops for approx. 300 euros.
You are well advised to consider this option. Even folks with a PA-800 should consider this, I think.
I have made 36 Performances including 96 Ketron SD2 sounds for the PA500/800. Anyone interested can contact me.
I can also recommend to you the new Resources 2011 that I made for both Korg PA500 and PA800 models, including 256 new performances , user sounds and a great many extra styles. See details and user comments :

No Sam, it has been around for about two years I would guess. It holds approx.
500 samples (and good ones) which are also to be found in the Ketron SD1 and partly the SD5. For the current street price it is an absolute steal !! MInd that it has no frills, just a volume switch, everything else has to be done via the midi controller and/or arranger keyboard. With Korg PA arrangers it works incredibly well, and here in Holland they used to promote it with the purchase of a Tyros 3,
can you imagine !!!

That's a pity. There is an American Ketron website though, even with a lot of sound demos:
http://www.ketronus.com/demos.php

There are also a lot of positive reviews on the internet.
See for instance:
http://www.ketron.com/specs_descrit.asp?mod=SD2
(tab downloads), or Harmony Central, Amazon etc.
The SD2 is about 3 years on the market now (2008), but it's an amazing piece of gear, considering its size.
The sound quality really is awesome.
Thanks again, John! 8)

I think I should have to be rewarded by Ketron for all this positive free publicity...

Did you have to change any of the PA500 midi settings?
I have a MicroArranger and want to try the SD2 with it. I don't know how to
Setup the Midi settings.
