Organizing presets for X3(R)

Discussion relating to all other KORG synth related products that don’t have a dedicated section. For example, OASYS PCI, M1, N Series, 01W series, T series, and more…

Organizing presets for X3(R)

Post by koneyn »

I've recently acquired an old Korg X3R (rack version of your standard X3) and found a few great preset collections. One of those collections I've managed to transfer to the module as a sysex file using MIDIOX.

When I started to browse through bunch of new sounds which had filled almost every one of 100 slots per bank, in both A and B banks, naturally I found some of them not really my kind of thing.

Now, as I haven't used to handle hardware synths so far, I can't figure out how to manage my program banks in more detail.

For example, I'd love to select only presets I like from one particular collection and fill the empty space with some other great presets from another source.

Is there a way I can open that PCG (or Sysex, whichever, I have both) in some software that would allow me to compile my own preset list and then transfer the whole thing nicely sorted into synth's memory?

Any hint is much appreciated, thanks in advance! :)

Koneyn,

Quick search found....

http://www.newhouse.nl/xedit/

X3 editor - freeware

You should be able to edit, organize and save user bank using your computer.

Be aware that combis will be looking for voices in particular bank/number slots - not patch names - so if you mess up program level order (accidentally or on purpose) you may have to work out what the correct voice assignments are in a given combi.

Have fun.

Thanks a lot, Bill!

It seems to work fine at a first glance, though I've actually ran into it listed somewhere but didn't think it would run on XP. I'm pleasantly surprised it does!

Fantastic, thanks again!
