You only have to look at the price of Fuel...there was a protest some years ago staged by farmers and truckers,Blokading the Refineries,most people backed them but soon complained when fuel supplies were running low,because it interfered with there usual day to day life and supermarket supplies,again a self absorbed community who rather than back these truckers,turned against them,that was when it was verging on the £1 a litre mark,its almost a third more now and noone gives a s**t!yet those selfish people are the same ones who moan about the cost of Food,well if you had of made a stand years ago,the farmers and truckers wouldn't be passing those high fuel prices that cost to transport goods in their already taxed to death fuel zapping vehicles onto Everyone...

Well more fool the idiots who complained about how selfish those protesters were back then...You made your bed....Lie in it the same as those people who took advantage of low interest rates during the labour rule,who overspent and got this country into a large debt because they never thought of the consequences of their own selfish greed...but slam the banks for making massive profits...didn't hear them people moaning when the banks were happy to loan them money on their properties they knew they could never repay once they hit negative equity..

Well, he's kind of right, I must admit. It's more complicated than that. But sadly, it's affecting the prices of everything and not just in Europe, though you guys do have it pretty bad. I guess the only solution is to either wait and save up to pay that pretty ridiculous VAT, or order one from over here and wait, but a little less.

If it was just the VAT and import duty, it wouldn't be an issue... it's the greedy markup on top of that that's the problem.

Of course we don't all have to pay so much if we really wanted to organise ourselves. Imagine this.... Twenty people each want to buy a Korg Kronos but the nasty mean music shops are insisting on a large mark-up, the govenrment (UK ranters get ready to reply) want to charge 20% VAT and Korg (lets hope not) come up with ridiculous prices - effect 20 people get screwed.

What if those 20 purchasers said - OK, lets pool our purchasing power and say to a few keyboard shops - we have money to buy 20 Kronos keyboards - and we'll buy from the shop that gives us the biggest discount.....

What if that 20 was 50...?

I already do get preferential pricing from my regular supplier. I don't think the issue is with the music shops... they already cut the prices as much as they can as they are in direct competition with each other. The problem is either with each of the European distribution companies (Korg UK for us in the UK) charging a high markup, or with Korg itself charging the European subsidiaries high prices which they have to pass on.

Either way, in the US, the item has been shipped all the way from Japan and imported through customs and the price is $2999 before any applicable sales tax. At that price the shop is still making their profit. The shipping distance to Europe is similar and we all have what are most likely import duties at least within a few percent of the US rates and so our prices should be similar to the US price plus local sales tax. Somewhere along the line, *someone* is applying a huge markup.

Imagine if the various European distrubutors pooled their buying power, even if you only count Western Europe, the potential marketplace is nearly 1.5 times the population of the US in about half of the land-mass area.

The problem with doing a "group-buy" import from the US to Europe (or even Japan to Europe) is that you will not have a local warranty... you might not even have a valid warranty at all.

OK... I'm sure if there's more than a handful of takers then you might even be able to approach Korg UK direct for a wholesale price... though that'll mean they'll probably only ship them all to one destination... might still be worth investigatiing though.

I've done this type of thing on car forums - where the dealer agrees a price in principle, and then the orders are totally individual (including delivery address & payment etc).....

Has worked well before.

Thought it was time to pull this tired old theme back to the top of the pile...

You may have seen that I tried to find out UK/EU pricing by asking RichF.. he says he cant say anything because he only deals with US distribution.

So I speculate that due to the silence from his EU counterpart (anyone know who this might be?) - that they are storing up some pretty bad news for us poor saps in Europe... (strange how they only want to tell us about nice things - interviews, new videos).... 4 days to go - maybe we'll get a nice surprise....
