My powerpack melted!

Post by JamesJeffery »

I was using my EMX on and off yesterday for about 14 hours. The powerpack was being turned off every couple of hours. The EMX has been rarely used so I can't understand what has happened.

When I came to switch if off at the end of the night I couldn't even hold it, it was that hot. The plastic on the outside has been melted and all the sides of the power pack are "sucked inward".

Has anyone had the same thing happen before? Is the pack safe to use still? Not sure what to do now, any help is much appreciated.

Was the powerpack cut off from air circulation, like being put under some kind of material that would thermally insulate it? If so, then the heat could build up for that reason. If not, then there is clearly an electrical defect of some kind, either with the powersupply or the electribe that would be inadvisable to use until the problem is diagnosed or you risk a more expensive failure. Was it hooked up to a reliable power source, or was it on an portable generator or inverter of some kind?

Anything unusual about the situation could be useful to determine the cause of the overheating.
