New member wanting some tips on gig gears

Post by johnjwong »

I am a new member! I have a M50 61 keys and I need one more keyboard to add to my gig set up! As I can not simply do everything with M50. Any advice for my options indicated below?

Background info: I am in 2 bands and I mainly only play live gigs (asian pop, pop/rock) . For one band I use my M50 61 for a weekly TV show and I needed another piece of gear for the upcoming show that I will have for this band (I think I am playing for a hong kong celebrity in the upcoming 3 months). For my other band, we do compose now because of the lack of show we have in the winter time. We compose rock and pop and my band members want me to add techno and vocoder stuff to it. I do not think I need sampling and I enjoy out of the box sounds as I am not good at tweeking sounds however, I am willing to learn.

Here are my options (All used keyboards):
1) Add a Korg M50 88 keys for $1600 Note: I dont need another sequencer and weight is an issue for me since I need to carry it 2-3 times a week

2) Add a M3 61 keys for $1200 (including an expansion board)-- Note: I dont need sampling, however sliders are a plus for live. I also realized this is a really good deal... but carrying around a M3 for live gigs?

3) Add a X50 61 keys for $500-$600: As i dont need another sampling and sequencer, this might be really attractive

4) Add a Triton 61 (any versions, studio, TR, le, except extreme) for $650 to $900 - I don't know why but for Chinese, a lot of Triton was used in celebrity concerts, some ppl just use soley Tritons studios and extremes as their setups

5) Add a Roland Fantom Xa for $620 - not familiar with Roland stuff and won't use the sampling however, is this a really good deal?

6) Add a roland juno di for $700 - some people say it is a toy and won't be if you are playing gig commercially, however, I enjoy the light weight, vocoder, and mp3 play back capabilities

7) Add yamaha MO6 for $700 - more variety of sounds when partnered with my M50?

I am willing to sell my M50 61 keys to change and can add any combinations of these options.

If anyone can help me out, I will be really appreciated. Thanks!
