I'm not sure (didn't have time to check on the forum yet) if you can downgrade to 2.0.3 and then back upgrade to 2.0.4. I'm sure it's evil if you downgrade to 1.xx
Only the veterans know the answer (i've bought my m3m with 2.0.4 installed) :)

M3 Sent for Repair

Post by ianking »

Just to keep everyone informed (whoever wants to know anyway), I will be sending the M3 module back to Korg UK for repair next week. I will let you know the developments, and more importantly, the cost.

From your description and thorough testing, it certainly seems there is a problem with the unit. You mentioned purchasing it in March, 2008, which is a little over two years ago. Technically, you're probably out of warranty, but not by much. (Korg gives a two year warranty when you register on their website. Even if you neglected to regsiter, the two year warranty should be allowed with your proof of purchase.) If there is a faulty hardware component -- they shouldn't go bad anywhere near this quickly -- I hope Korg will do the right thing and repair or replace your unit at no charge.

I'm not suggesting that Korg should be expected to cover all out-of-warranty repairs. However, this case seems clearly deserving of some accommodation by Korg. This is an expensive piece of hardware and if some component has failed this quickly, they should just make the customer-friendly gesture and fix it at no charge.

And, if they're smart, someone will mention to the repair center that this particular case has been discussed on the Korg Forum and many staunch Korg customers know about the case and will be following its outcome.

I think it would make a lot of Korg customers happy to see Korg make you happy.

I did have similar feelings that (if it is a faulty part) it should not go wrong in just two and a half years. The keyboard has sat in my home studio since new and has never been 'gigged'.

I still use a Wavestation SR which I've had since it first came out and an M1r, neither of which has let me down (plus loads of other Yamaha & Roland gear over the years). I think this is the first keyboard or rack I've ever had to send for repair (and I've had keyboards for 25 years).

Anyway, thanks for your message and I'll let you know what happens.

M3 Fixed for FREE (Metallic Crackle Problem)

Post by ianking »

I just thought I would let everyone know that this problem has now been sorted out by Korg UK and I received my M3 module back this morning and it sounds nice and clear again. The problem turned out to be a MAJOR one with the CPU board, however, the nice people at Korg replaced the WHOLE board free of charge (they even payed for it's return). Bearing in mind that the warranty had expired I though they deserved some praise by me on this forum as well as by direct email to them.

Thanks to everyone who tried helping me when I first posted my messages and thanks to the nice people at Korg UK.

It definetely deserves a special mention, it's not easy to find this kind of support out of warranty.

Good job Korg UK!

...and it's nice to hear everything is working again Ian!

Korg did the right thing. I'm very glad to hear this. I have some twenty pieces of Korg gear, mostly expensive synths. I'm glad that I'm patronizing a company that will make it right for a customer when the circumstances warrant it, as in this case.

Sounds like a slight short to ground on either your headphones or your L/R outputs. Do you have it with the headphones disconnected? How about when the headphones are connected and the LR jack outs are unconnected? Have another pair of hphones or output speaker cables?
