EMX tip: Playing 2 parts at same time (yes it can be done)

Post by gil videla »

So here's a little trick I learned the other night,
#1 As some of you know, based on your Arpegiator setting, you can use the ribbon to have a drum part play straight 16-notes.

ok, but try it this way. I had a clap muted, I then unmuted it holding down the Part-Mute button (keep it held down). Now I reached over to the ribbon, and I'm playing clap-clap-clap-clap....., with the Part-Mute still held down, I reach over to select a synth part (say button#2) and I can begin tweaking knobs on the synth part (like Cut-off or Freq) while I continue to hold down the ribbon which keeps the clap 16th's going,

this can be useful for build up or something.

if my instructions don't pain the picture I may make a video clip of it

I posted this tip, along with another ribbon-related tip, over on the "other" electribe forum a mere four days ago. I have not noticed it being mentioned anywhere else. (I notice it has recieved a few views so far, could you perhaps have been one of these viewers?) Either way, could you please join me in acknowlegdng the "coincidence" of your "discovering" the same trick last night, a mere three days later?

My tips posts can be seen here: http://electribe-forum.com/viewforum.php?f=6 (Cheeky new ribbon trick 1 and 2) and they contain much more information, including what happens when you use this technique while triggering arpeggiator on a synth part, and when you try to play other parts (synth or drums) with the ribbon still held down....

If you're tired of dealing with Enter-Shikari fans asking "how does I make it do (insert simple task almost certainly covered in the manual and definitely already covered on these boards multiple times)" or "how does I record myself into my EMX" etc, I recommend heading over to the other forum and registering. It has the advantages of having a) fewer morons, b) sub-forums by category, and c) less useless posts to wade through. Also has electribe music / video subforums.

1. that is quite the coincidence.

2. I've been on this forum for a few years now (when Ruso dominated the "airwaves") and I don't find this place filled iwth enter-skirai fans. I never liked that crap anway... I have sub'd to that forum, but often forget to give it a look, going now:)
