As always, please feel free to comment and let us know what other videos you'd like to see.
Thanks,

Thanks for the demos. VERY helpful.
And for the record, you do an impressive job explaining features and functions. I couldn't do it...
Great job!

I think is one nice little piece of hardware, Rich. And your videos are very informative as always.
However, I think the Monotron could have been a much more usable instrument if it could be hooked to a MIDI keyboard, or at least to a computer MIDI-USB interface (A-la-nanokey) and use it as a sound module. That could have been a real blast.

Re: A few monotron demonstration videos
I'm going to take this as proof that vintage and vintage emulating filters really make a sound; using similar settings to the first part of part 2, my R3 isn't making a kick. I need to do a lot more to the sound to get the kick.
Then again, I'm not sure what peak is relative to resonance.

Great job, there really aren't enough good demonstration videos like these.
Lack of MIDI or keyboard is a pain, but if you open up the case you'll see on the PCB that the CV gate bend point is clearly labeled (I wonder if Korg did this on purpose?) so theoretically it should be fairly straightforward to retrofit MIDI or control it via CV. I think there are a couple of clips on youtube of this being done. After I do some more research (and get some more money...) I'm planning on making a keyboard version of the Monotron - so long as Korg doesn't start making them first.

The point we've made before for example about R3/Radias vs microKorg or real analog though is not about this.tpantano wrote:I'm going to take this as proof that vintage and vintage emulating filters really make a sound; using similar settings to the first part of part 2, my R3 isn't making a kick. What matters is that you can get the sounds, and from my point of view certainly the advantage is that you can choose to not sound like that. With the microKorg or monotron you are stuck with it always sounding like that.
By the way I do think the monotron is fantastic. great videos.

this is the most useful video for showing the abilities of the external audio in feature. Good job Rich!

To keep up with the rule that every thread must have some sceptic opinion I feel that this one is where I can share some dose of scepticism
Actually I sill can't understand the Monotron hype and cannot find any use of it. For analogue sound design there is DSI Mopho. Ok Mopho a bit different price range, but it can generate some musical stuff too, whereas I still haven't seen any good musical use of Monotron - just youtube fun. Perhaps it is designed keeping youtube in mind. Anyway, if Korg could earn some money with this monotoy to put it in to something more advanced - lets say polytron pro - than, of course, this can be justified

really looking forward to getting mine in the mail.

It's a super fun toy
especially for under $60.
I was amazed at the textures and sounds I could get. I think it's really well designed, but I'm taking it at face value.
I will mostly use it to play with, generate ideas, and gather sounds and rhythm loops for editing in my Mac to use in Ableton Live. I'm also getting
a couple for a workshop in electronic music and sound for kids - and ensuing kid's concert - that I'll be putting together.
I don't expect much in the way of features (MIDI input, for example) in something this wee, and it's ease of use and portability reminds me a little bit of he old PAIA Gnome. (Remember that one, kids?) This little thing begs to be taken with you wherever you go.
