comparison between m50 sounds and m3

Post by tarek »

hello guys ..i tried m50 synth sounds bank and aslo the m3 but directly i

noticed difference in the sonic power..!!should that be normal? imean

m50 and m3 share the same synth engine and the same effects ..it

seemed to me that the main differance was with the max polyphony..but

when i asked some friend frm korg who told me that its in the samples

and multi sample quality..!! i was surprised ..so any body got a clue

about the whole thing?

From KORG's UK Website specs sheet: ..."The M50 uses Korg's latest "EDS" (Enhanced Definition Synthesis) sound generation system, the technology used on the M3, delivering exactly the same stunning sounds and effects!"...

Is there room for doubt in the above statement ?

I know this doesn't mean much but the guy who worked in the shop where I bought my M50 said he thought the M3 sounded better than the M50, then I directed him to the above quote which he seemed rather surprised about.
If you "Google" Google, it breaks the internet.

(Based on the TRITON synth engine the Pa50SD sound quality is second to none)

this is also from korg website and states that pa50 uses the same synth engine of the triton family while its not capable of generating 10% of the triton ..

It doesn't say the same thing. While one says delivers exactly the same sound, the other says its sound quality is second to none.

Does it looks the same to you ?

Why don't you do a blind test. Tell the store to connect both synths to the same amp with the same settings, select the same program or combi and play both without you knowing which one is which.

You will then decide which one sounds better to you.

I think this blind test is done actually already and the result was that they sound pretty much the same... Obviously M3 can blow the M50 out of the water if you're using Karma because it can do some killer grooves and stuff but that doesn't have anything to do with sound quality.
M50 and M3 have the same sound engine and same D/A-converters (someone on the forum actually checked this as well) so they should sound completely the same

But then you can Karma-fy the M50. :D The differences become then the sampling, expansions, and construction.
Kind of sad that we foreign people have to pay more than the price of an M3 to acquire an M50 61... still, the M50 is a great machine!

Regarding the sound, I'm pretty sure they sound the same, according to credited sources (like Stephen Kay), and Korg itself.

Are you 100% certain about this statement?

Also, I don't think the samples on the M50 are on the same league as the ones in the M3, maybe SOME of them.

I have both the M3 and M50 and they sound exactly the same. And yes, they use the exact same samples.

Isn't redundant to own an M3 and an M50? Make up your mind.

The Leslie is nowhere as advanced as the Leslie on the CX3 (which baffles the hell out of me considering how long ago the digital CX3 came out) but there are a few good organs in the presets. Some are damn convincing.

I still use my Triton for 99% of my organ sounds (and most other as well actually).

thanks brother, right back at ya though I don't think we have that here in the states. We should though. There's enough negativity in the world.

Hey, we don't have that here either. Only Feb 14th (Valentines) we call it the day of Love and Friendship. But Friend's Day? Hmmm, no that I remember.

Anyhow, Happy Friend's Day to you guys as well :D

As Mc just pointed, too much hate and disharmony. We need friends. Lots of them.

probably not as redundant as me owning an M3 and an M50. :)

They compliment each other quite nicely as while they may have the same sounds, they will be different so it will be a broader pallet.
