Pa 800 Error reading OS file!

Post by chrisgr »

Here's my problem.
A while ago I had a freezing problem with the keyboard and I thought I would format it and reinstall OS 2.01 and resources. When I tried to do that, I had to repeat the procedure many times because the keyboard froze during the update.
Finally when I did it, sometimes when I turned it on, the screen showed pa800 and then nothing and I had to switch off and on again. After some days it stopped doing that and it functioned properly.
Today I had the same problem but after a few turn on/offs, the screen showed: "Error reading OS file!". After that, sometimes when I switched off and on again it would switch on properly without showing this message but while I was playing, it froze again.
Now I'm trying to install OS and resources but I can't.''

Do you know what the problem is?The official service in Greece told me on the phone that they haven't heard of this problem.
I believe that has something to do with the internal memory, but I don't know.Does anyone have an idea of what's happening?

Hi Chris
Sorry to hear about your problems.

Just starting with the obvious (sorry) but have you down loaded a fresh set of the OS, reset and resources files and unzipped them onto a different device (USB)?

Eliminate those items first if you haven't already.

Let us know how you go

Cheers

Thanks for the answer!
I downloaded a fresh set of the OS and resources the first time that happened and I managed to install it after some tries because it froze during the installation.
Now I downloaded those again but it always freezes!
I think that the ssd is malfunctioning and needs change.Any idea how much it will cost?

Am I the only one who has this issue?

Get your service guys to give you a quote - it is very hard to guess what it might be - could be something simple and quick but they can get in and analyze the k'board quite quickly and hopefully have a solution for you.

Good luck - keep us informed...

I talked to them on the phone and they have no idea of what it might be!
I hope it's something simple and inexpensive because my guarantee has expired!
I will keep you informed.

Hi again!
The keyboard was fixed by replacing the cpu board.
Today I got it back from service but now there is an aftertouch problem.
The aftertouch gets activated the moment I press a key although it is supposed to be activated when I press the key all the way down.
I have already done a format and the problem remains, so it isn't software problem.
Maybe the technician at korg service did something wrong.
Has anyone had the same problem and what was the solution?

how much did it cost?

how much did it cost to replace the CPU board? is there any chance you could just buy the part. I am thinking of buying a keyboard that has a problem like this. its still a gamble that this is the same problem.
thanks

@paulmpianist: It costed 484 euros.I don't know if you can find the part alone but if it is not the same problem you will waste too much money!

@LESSISMORE: The guy who fixed it won't tell me the procedure.Sorry man..

its to damn hard to get motherboard and ram module out... u have to disconect whole interior and lots of cables and conectors... if u dont have experience I DON RECCOMEND U THAT!!! And every keyboard servicers will tell u that if pa800 is once with those problems it will not be last, even if u change motherboard....
i have bad motherboard and ram... and payed over 400 euros for new... and after changing all tht this is third time my pa800 is at service... luckily i have 1year warranty on motherboard and ram... but it expires in january...
but my advice... dont go for damaged keyboard... im still waiting my pa800 to be done... and its not problem in sesrvicers... its problem in parts korg manufacture...

Thanks very much for the advice. When i go into the store to get a new keyboard... I just play all the keys for hours and then i take the best sounding one with the best features. I have mostly Korgs. The PA80 was easy to decide. but the PA800 .... looks like a lot of bugs. Many happy customers, but more customers with problems. Thanks a lot for the advice. I'm going to be careful.
thanks

My problem was not the motherboard. It was the CPU Board.
These are two different boards.I hope I won't have problems again!
