Any way to count in/wait for input to record on KP3?

Post by BeatsfromDP »

Say I'm recording from my guitar into the KP3 - is there any way I can give myself some time to switch from hitting the record button on the KP to playing my guitar? I know the KoPro will wait for input before it starts to record (if nothing's been recorded yet), and if something has been recorded already, it'll count through however many bars over and over again, while the KP3 seems to just count through however many bars and stop. Only thing I can think of is either pressing record on the KP with my foot or recording into the KoPro (or my MPC or computer) first, THEN sampling that into the KP3...unless anyone has ideas?

The KP3 as you've discovered starts recording immediately, so you've got two other possible workarounds I can think of. Assuming you want to record a 16-beat loop:

Hit record and wait 8 beats, then play half of your guitar loop. Keep that going and record the other half onto a different bank so that they sound complete when playing together. You can loop-merge them together (along with add'l KP3 effects if you like) onto a third bank if you want to save the finshed loop for later use.

The other option would be to rig up a MIDI footpedal that can trigger the bank. (You'll have to hit Record Arm manually, but you can do that way in advance.) I find a Behringer FCB works fine for this but it'll set you back a couple hundred bucks. Of course if you're already contemplating using your foot directly on the KP3 you should just save the cash

Thanks, I had seen someone using their foot while playing guitar on YouTube and I just wondered if there was an easier way. I thought of the 16-bar half/half/splice idea, just didn't know if there was a feature I missed. Thanks for your help!
