Brand New M50-88 Owner

Post by EpicurusFire »

I am a guitarist and I wanted to take up keyboard/piano, and after doing my research on line I settled with the M50-88. It arrived yesterday and I was a little overwhelmed by all the features as well as all the workstation jargon, but it totally blew me away. I just wish I knew how to play it haha....but I feel like the best way to learn is to play on a good keyboard that will keep you motivated.

By the way...MusiciansFriend is the s**t. I got the M50-88, Sony studio headphones, a heavy duty double X stand, and a $400 50-watt keyboard amp all for $1529.99 on the President's Day Weekend Sale. I'm glad it came with the amp or I would have been pissed because I didn't realize it doesn't feature onboard speakers.

One question: I couldn't find a USB cable in the box to connect it to a PC. Is it sold separately?

Gotta get your own usb cable.

I agree - The M50 88 is one of the best.

Congrats on the new M50! And welcome to the forum -- you'll soon discover that this is a very friendly and helpful place.

Yes, the USB cable is sold separately.

As for digging into your M50, I highly recommend watching some of Rich Formidoni's videos, which explain many of the basics (just go to you tube and search under "Formidoni M50"). And, of course, playing the M50, experimenting (go ahead, tweak away, you won't damage the synth), and with your manual open at all times.

Best of luck with it.

Thanks for the input. I purchased "PianoForAll", an online piano lesson manual with videos....hopefully that will work well. Seems kinda unofficial with typos and stuff but as long as it works thats all I care about.

Is this a regional thing? I got a matching black USB cable with my M50 when I bought it...

Actually, come to think of it -- yes, I got one, too! Hmmm.

@Epicurus: perhaps write to Musician's Friend?

Checked the manual....when referring to the AC Adapter is says "The included AC Adapter", but when referring to the USB cable it just says "Connect the USB cable..."

I sent in this question to MusiciansFriend and I should get a response today. If not oh well, I'll buy a damn 5 dollar cable haha.

I'm loving this keyboard though.
