Smartmedia XD adapter problem

Post by gatovertical »

Hi,

Following some advises found on the net I bougth an smartmedia adapter and a 128 MB XD card, but when I plug them into my EMX1, I get a error message. I can't format it.

My PC recognizes both of them, so they are OK.

Any suggestion?

Thanks!

Have you tried plugging in the cards before you switch on the EMX. Are you able to try the cards on another machine? Are they plugged in to each other when your computer recognises them- or seperate? Are you putting your card in gold side down?- as you should be? Good luck

Thanks for the reply, robosardine,

I tried them before and after turning the emx1 on, and in the computer it works with both plugged in, That's why I know it's not and adapter or card problem.

I'd like to find a way to solve it but I fear I'll have to buy a real Smartmedia next time.

What does the error message actually say? Is the card or the EMX write protected?

It says: No Card / error

The EMX protection (global mode) is off, and I guess so is the card, since it's really an adapter and it has no silver sticker.

I had a similar problem when I first used my adaptor. Firstly, it needed to be inserted "upside down" into the slot. And secondly, when inserted "upside down" it seemed to exhibit the same problem you are describing. In my case, it was solved by reinserting it a couple of times. One made a good connection.

In conclusion, try wiggling it about a bit.

Yes, make sure the xd card and the adaptor are fitting snugly together. (the only other thing I can think of is that you don't have the xd going into the adaptor properly- push it right in) Push the whole lot into the EMX right in, gold side down, then switch on.

gotBASS: I'm not really sure I get what you mean by "upside down" but I tried a lot of ways and the result is the same... Anyway, did the problem repeated or dissapeared after the 1st formatting?

robosardine: as I told you, I tried both fitted together in a PC, at it recognized it, it's just the EMX1 that doesn't...

OK I think you may need to try another card. Hopefully it is not a fault with the EMX. Smart Media cards are usually quite cheap on ebay
