Ok, I've been playing on my em-1 for over 1 year now and my gf has recently purchased me an esx new....I love it and gelt very comfortable from the get go with it. I've played for my friends and others locally off the machine for about 6 months now and people say they enjoy my stuff. I think I'm ready to start recording and putting together some mp3s and giving out my stuff on CDs for people... but I am at a loss as to how this is accomplished....SO I have my esx...with songs completed and events recorded, what is the process and or equipment needed to take a song file, event recording or patterns off the electribe and get them into a format that can be placed on a CD. I know with the smart media you can save EVERYTHING at once to a card but is there just a simple way to take one song file and transfer it then convert the audio format to mp3?? . Also is there a way to just record directly off the electreibe into a PC or laptop as I play it. And if so,what kind of pc or laptop would I need or what downloadable software/cords will I need to go with it?
I'm pretty good with understanding directions ....so a nice step by step or anything would be greatly appreciated
Sorry for the wall of text but I feel this is the next step for me and have never done anything outside of the actual electribes themselves.
Thank you

all you need is a computer with a sound card (that has a line in which is usually a blue headphone like jack in the back).....
You will also need a dual 1/4 inch to a 1/8th inch cable...

To record you can use just about any program.... here's the best free one : http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

wow thanks for being so helpful
. now heres the next thing....i have my little studio setup axross the room from my Desktop and it doesnt have a soundcard....will the headphone jack in my laptop work...seeing as its on the same little card table as my two electribes for my data transmitting.
i feel like i want to ask more now that you gave me such a clear answer before so here goes...
i have my EM-1 and my ESX side by side....and reading the ESX manual i read that you can hook other devices to it through MIDI...is that something i can do with the EM-1 hooked up to the ESX and if so , what are the benefits of that and what exactly does it do?
And finally...if i can record just like how you told me in your previous post...then whats the idea behind doing midi dumps and what not? is that more for if you wanted to do more remixing and mastering of your music before recording it?
thank you so much and i cant wait to post some of my work here for all of you.
I actually was just looking at external sound cards...not too bad on the prices ...and if i got something like that im guessing it would setup like this: dual 1/4 to 1/8 jack plugged into external sound card, external soundcard hooked up to laptop with audacity running, then record. am i right?

I use two 1/4 instrument cables going from my two outs (EMX) into my two instrument ins (Apogee Duet). My Duet interface plugs directly into my iMac via firewire and the patterns coming from my EMX record directly right into Logic Express 8 which captures it crisp and clear. I then use compression plug-ins inside Logic to enhance the cut through the mix. In other words, the sound will be robust and have a more 'professional' sound than just recording straight into the computer and leaving it as is without any post work.
The Duet is kind of expensive, and only works on Macs. So if you're on a budget, there are many other great options out there. The audio interface is basically just a box/soundcard that acts as a middleman between your Electribe and your computer. I don't recommend recording straight into a computer without an audio interface.
Electribe ---> Audio Interface ---> Your Computer
You'll connect the two 1/4 ends of the cable to your Electribe's L/Mono and R output, and the two RCA (smaller ones) ends to the Behringer U-Control's L and R input. The U-Control's usb cable will connect to your computer/laptop's usb port.. and then it's pretty much plug and play from there. It should record directly right into Audacity.
Here's the U-Control interface --
