got clock error flashing in red in the middle of the screen at the top.
does anyone know what it is?

In Global mode select 'Basic' on both the lower and upper row of tabs and on that page check that System Clock is set to Internal, or if it's not make sure you're providing clock via S/PDIF or the BNC connector on the EXB-DI. The error you're seeing means that clock is not being received from either of those two connectors.
