Now Available - Irish Grand Piano & Rhodes Library.

Post by Sharp »

Hi all.

I'm delighted to announce, the day has finally come when the Irish Grand Piano & Rhodes library Rob and Ihave been working on for months is finally released. For detailed information and demo's please CLICK HERE

On behalf of Rob and myself I would like to thank you, and hope you enjoy the sounds as much as we do. Personally I'm supremely confident that this is the best piano library that has ever been release for any KORG Arranger keyboards. The level of detail and care that has gone into crafting this library is second to none.

Regards
James

Hi all.
I'm going to post some information on how the shopping cart works because it's a little more than a standard shopping cart. It's also a personal online storage system that keeps a backup of all your purchases for you in the event you need to download them again at some point in the future.

****************************************
How the shopping cart works.

If you purchase something, you need to create an account on the shopping cart to download it. You can do this before or after you make your purchase, it makes no difference.

After you make a purchase you will received two emails. The first email is from Pay Pal and this contains your receipt or payment. Note, you do not need a Pay Pal account to purchase items from my shopping cart. I simply use them to process the payments to keep both you and I safe from fraud. So you can pay with normal credit cards and so on, as well as a Pay Pal account if you have one.

The second email you get comes from my server and is the one that contains the product registration code. This is what unlocks your download and to use this you simply login to your account on the shopping cart and click on “Register a new product”. Now just enter in your product registration code and then download your purchased item.

Your account is also your personal online storage space so if the worst happens and you lose your files in a year from now, a backup copy will be sitting in your account always and ready for instant download.

If there are any questions just let me know.

Kind Regards
James.

Just listened to the demos, Wow! Fantastic work.

Will there be a pa800 version available ? If not, can you please explain why. Thank you.

Thanks to the excellent Irish Acts "mega grand piano" samples from James, and the way this new piano for the Pa2x has worked out, I decided to sell my vintage (1867) Bluthner grand piano which has been my pride and joy for the last two years.

Image

Yesterday I met a very interested prospective purchasor. He is the manager of the Achilleion palace in Corfu. He wants to buy it to go in the antechamber of Empress Elizabeth (of Bavaria and Austria), who built the Achilleion in 1890. There is a possibility the piano was owned by Elisabeth/ Sissi (who was a pianist and a Zither player) although of course I cannot prove it because all Bluthner's pre war sales records were burned when a bomb dropped on the factory. Anyway, I hope some other Pa2x owners will enjoy using my new "pride and joy" - the Irish Acts Grand piano as much as I do. You can have something which in my opinion sounds better than a Bluthner concert grand piano, not for 14,000 Euros, but for a mere 35 Euros plus the cost of an EXB-M256 sample RAM expansion card if you don't already have one!

Image

I thank Lee and his wife who travelled from the USA to help me in Corfu during the final stages of setting up my Pa2x, M3-88 and finalizing the Irish Acts grand piano Sound. Also thank you to all the testers. I've enjoyed working with James (Irish Acts) on this project and he and I will undertake to provide support and hints and tips on customization via this forum in response to your questions.

Best regards,
Rob

Hi rbalaa,

I'm really sorry but with the "Irish Grand Piano" there's no way we can compress 165 Mbytes of samples to fit in 64 Mbytes of RAM. The project was to develop "the ultimate sampled piano". The downside is the sample sizes - which are uncompressed and unlooped. I think the Korg pianos and especially the "Grand Piano RX" will remain one of the best sounds available on the Pa800. There is a free 2-layer "Steinway piano" for the Pa800 which I developed earlier using the University of Iowa samples. If you can't find the link I'll look it up for you. The Steinway piano Sound for the Pa800 has a few unfixable problems, especially the large amount of reverb in the sample recordings.

If you want the Rhodes Piano by itself for the Pa800 then we could make that available in a separate release for about 15 Euros. I think it takes 20 Mbytes of sample space.

Best regards,
Rob

The load rate on the Pa2x is approximately 1 minute per 100 MB of data.
It's about the same load rate as my Korg M3.

Tutorial - Create a new Sound without mechanical effects

Post by Rob Sherratt »

The Irish Grand Piano sounds were designed to recreate exactly the sound made by a Grand piano. Just like Korg's Grand Piano RX, it implements sustain pedal ON and OFF noises, and note OFF noises. However if you don't like these authentic RX sound effects, here's how to create a new Sound in which they are deleted:

a) Enter Sound operating mode on the Pa2x.

b) Go to the "MENU->Basic" page.

c) In the upper left area the Oscillators Count is at present set to 14, change it to 8. This will delete the top 6 oscillators which used the following Korg multisamples in order to create the same mechanical noises as occur on a Grand Piano. These FX noises are present also on the factory Grand Piano RX sound:
  • OSC 09 & 10 FX Key Off-L and -R ---- Key release noise (hitting stop)
    OSC 11 & 12 FX Pedal On-L and -R -- Sustain pedal on noise
    OSC 13 & 14 FX Pedal Off-L and -R -- Sustain pedal off noise
d) In the upper left corner, the "Low Priority" parameter is set to 6, change it to 0. This is because there are no longer any low priority oscillators. The remaining 8 oscillators handle the Irish Acts piano multisamples, which are called:
  • OSC 01 & 02 Piano 3 Layer 3-L and -R --- very loud
    OSC 03 & 04 Piano 3 Layer 2-L and -R --- loud
    OSC 05 & 06 Piano 3 Layer 1-L and -R --- medium loud
    OSC 07 & 08 Piano 3 Layer 0-L and -R --- quietest samples
e) Now from the drop-down menu use the "Write Sound" function to save your changes. Call the new sound something like "Irish Grand NoRX" and select an unused USER storage location.

This guide was produced in response to a question from one of the people who purchased the Irish Grand piano. Sharp and I will undertake to answer all questions in a similar way on this thread. Users are very welcome to redistribute the PCG folder containing Sound edits that you have made. It is only the PCM samples that may not be redistributed.

Best regards,
Rob

Thanks Rob you're a star. I'll keep using the original as well as it may be a matter of getting used to it, and sometimes you end up listening too hard to sounds and need to take a step back.

You and James have done a wonderful job!

Kind regards
Bruce

Hi Solomusiker

With the Irish Grand samples I've now got just under 200mb of samples loading and it takes 2 minutes 24 seconds on my PA2x - but well worth the wait.

Kind regards

Bruce

OK -- I have tried to create a link to Box file sharing to post my early morning Mp3 recording of James and Rob's Irish Rhodes. Pardon the playing errors, way before coffee and I intentionally (most of the time) varied the key pressure and kept the volume up high to try to get a feel for the sample layers and hear the FX. Obviously too early to punch the ending button at the correct time !!!! Oh well, you get the idea....
Great work guys -- I hope this link works -- first try doing this.

OK the link does not work without my password. How the heck do you do this where it links right to the shared file???
