for the last few days, I looked into Spectrasonics Omnisphere and was quite impressed to the point where I would be willing to get it. However, I like my M3 and its broad, warm pads, fantasy/motion sounds, the quick response (no CPU limit), the fast sound search etc.
With Omnisphere being such a MONSTER, will my M3 still look great or will I go down the sad road of replacing it with a dull MIDI controller keyboard for "plug-in only" operation (it might be worth noting that I mainly work in the studio, not live).
well i tried for some days Omnisphere in my friend's studio that bough it and i have to say that it's really impressive for how patch sound deep, spatial and for the real hi-quality of the sample.
anyway i see it mainly for studio works, for live performance i still prefer to have HW synth without any laptop
Omnisphere will not replace the M3 but it will kill the Pad and Soundscapes on
the M3, you cant really compare them, it is a CPU driven software, can do a lot
more things, way more complex and fast.

Unless you do 100% of your work in the studio or you risk bringing a laptop to gigs, having a keyboard like the M3 with good-quality built-in sounds isn't a bad thing.

Both are hardware vst pluggers.
-Open labs even takes it a step further by offering full sollutions based on VST's soon to include KARMA with some models clearly dedicated for live use.
So you don't need to bring a laptop to a gig to use Vst's
The Hans Zimmer Guitars in Omnisphere do kill the M3 guitars and the pads and atmospheric stuff do too, but the M3 is an animal in its own right. Why don't we just agree that they "compliment" each other very well.

keep in mind that Omnisphere will be upgraded for years to come ( per Eric Pershing himself declared elsewhere online) including the next one which is scheduled for next month.
They are both killer instruments in their own ways.

I bought omnisphere and before I upgraded
the patches to 1.03 I was very desapointed
with the synth, you can find great choirs, and
soundscapes but there was many bell,malette,
kind of sound that are useless for me. The motion synth are hard to use with a drum
track, you can't sync them with the speed
of the beat, so often everything get's confuse.
If you work on a score for a film and you need
''ambiance'' it's the synth you want, but it's
not a workstation, you can't sit and play
like we do with the M3, and it was not meant to be another M3.
So I got the 1.03 upgrade and the 1.04 (mac)
software upgrade ( got to install them both
because it wont work) and I am still fooling
around with the sounds, and it's a relief,
there's many good patches in that upgrade
and I think the 500$ I spent was well spent.
The M3 is a unique synth, with karma nothing
comes close, it's a source of inspiration for
me, for me omnisphere is more a tool, a very
good one, but not as ''friendly'' to use as the M3.
So it's kind of sad but i found you can't have
one or the other because they are to different
guess you have to buy both!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It would be nice if the people at suprasonics
would include some down to earth sound
like pianos, drum........ not a stupid GM
bank but sounds that would let us create
a piece of music entirely in omnisphere.
With the samples they have in there collection
(for sale) I dont think it would be very difficult
for them to include some good pianos.....
