Hello forum,
I recently bought a secondhand M3 described as 'xpanded', but when i try to load the new samples in the MEDIA EX-USB PCM tab, i receive the following message: 'NO MEDIUM' And the programs that use these samples are silent.
Does anybody know why this is happening, and how i can rectify it?
Also, RAM2, in the same tab is empty, whereas RAM1 is green, is this because the M3 unit in question does not contain the 256Mb card?
If this is the case, is it easy to fit my own? What kind should i get? And how big a card will the M3 take? Did i read somewhere that someone fitted a 1Gig card? Could i do that? And would it help??
Hey thanks again in advance for all your help forum, it is sorely needed!
Tom.

You need to buy the additional memory board, you can't put any other memory sticks inside, it's proprietary Korg memory (
) It's 256 MB and people say it goes around for 99$.
Then you would need to load the new samples to RAM from an USB stick or something. Every time you turn the board on. They could've at lease made that expansion memory board FLASH ROM instead of RAM so that you can have no waiting time -_-'
Oh, and forum member McHale did the 1 GB mod, he duct taped the USB stick (or was it SD card?) INSIDE the board so that he can load any sample expansion whenever he wishes to, and he doesn't have to plug in the stick every time he needs it. That's also convenient because USB sticks are easily forgettable! Mind you, this mod doesn't increase your sample RAM... it's merely a method to have all currently available sample expansions for the M3 available whenever they are needed.

Re: XPANDED MISSING EX FILES
Sometimes this problem rises with USB sticks that have a secret partition (U3). Sandisk for example uses this. Best is to use a cheap no-name which comes with no software at all. Format it on the M3 and it will work.Orbvs_Tomarvm wrote:Hello forum,

Also happens: the M3 can be a little slow at times. When your in Media mode and it shows "no medium" you click the drop down menu (upper right corner) and select rescan devices. Maybe your device will show up now. If not, you should consider buying another one. They cost next to nothing nowadays.
For the USB stick to show up, the EXB-M256 expansion is not necessary. If you want to load all at the same time, of course you do.

Hello evildragon and coronado, Thanks very much for your replies.
Lets see if i have this right...
are the ex sample files supposed to be on a usb stick that i should have received with the m3? And when the m256 chip is installed, you simply transfer the data from the usb stick to the internal chip?
I didn't receive any medium, but did plug in my usb stick and tried loading ex samples from the MEDIA EX-USB PCM tab, but received the message:
File/path not found
I checked and there was no m256 chip, even took the back off and noticed an MMC card was in the m3. Anyone know what that is? I removed it, but still couldn't see the make or size of the card, but did notice this writing on it: AE30-256OR EPO6C0037
Ok, now i think i'm kind of working towards an answer but still really don't know... except for one thing... i really want/NEED these samples
Cheers, Tom.
